Real Nikon Lover Loc: Simi Valley, CA

I have been shopping for good used Nikon pieces at MPB.com, and other bargain websites. I scored a new (used) battery pack for my SB-800 speedflash units, and a battery pack for the SB-5000 speedflash, a SB-400 Speedflash to be used as a fill flash on a D850 Nikon. I also won a bid on an older but pristine Nikon 50mm pancake 1.8 G lens.

I picked up all products (sans D850) for <$150.00 so I did good.

Also been remodeling my Father in Laws house because my Mother in Law died Jan 11th from kidney disease. At the same time he had to be hospitalized as he came down with flesh eating Staph A bacteria which chewed up his left leg tremendously. The pictures are crazy!

So we had to gut his house and decon for safety and have been in the process of remodeling it in our spare time until which time he comes home or passes away and we sell it.

Life is crazy for everyone at the moment. Here is a happy moment tonight of my little Chihuahua "Mr. Bandit" walking down the hallway. Using the new SB-400 as a fill flash and a 50mm 1.8 AF-S E lens on a D850.

Peace!

I am riding my bicycle, weather permitting. No one on the roads, and with 40mm tires, doing quite a bit of trail riding. Not many people on those either. Southern Delaware is pretty deserted. Otherwise, planning a few cabinetmaking projects - a couple of crafstman-style corner cabinets, and a large lazy susan table for the living room. My woodworking supply is closed, and hopefully they won't go out of business.

I will admit it, I am a high-risk individual for exposure, so we have been closeted for now 16 days with no end in sight.

So, that being said, to keep myself sane I have been following the Cats with my Nikon (they run when they hear the focus motor), shooting sunsets and sunrises in Los Angeles and time-lapses with a DJI ActionCam.

What have all of you been doing to keep your sanity intact?

My hairs long, and the wife is suddenly turning grey.😂🤪

I've been sequestered for 16 days. I am super high risk. I've been finding things to shoot around the yard. Mostly playing with my cameras. Learning to shoot video. Watching YouTube a lot. Basically going bat-shit crazy.

I just finish reading all the replies, I am finding that we are all doing the best we can to keep body and soul going. Yes, I need a hair cut, can't go any where, because there is no place to go to. One thing I am finding I not alone. When will this virus end; it well end when it ends and some of us may not see the end. Good luck and good day. Bill 45

Not much different for me. I am, and almost always have been a loner. I live alone; usually travel alone; roam the mountains, streams, and coastlines alone; and am quite happy doing so. Now I pick up takeout rather than eating alone in house. I don't know the last time I actually touched another person. So my "hardship" is much less than most people's.

For the last 2 weeks I have been spending a lot of time visiting my wife in hospital. She doesn't have the virus however she lost the ability to be mobile (dementia). They are working on the mobility issue and ofter that tackle about the dementia problem. So at the moment I am just taking it day by day.

Richard, I am so sorry. You have my sympathy.

I have a large yard with bird feeders, birds, squirrels, two little dogs in and out of the rec room with me, 3 cats in the house so lots of stuff to photograph then edit - opps almost forgot under the pattern for an airfield with a warbird museum and a small airport so planes to watch and every so often one worth photographing. Books to read, cable TV, radio -I have been retired a while and am used to this now. But I really wish my wife (retired RN) would let me out besides medical appointments. I really need to make a run for bird feed. The brand/variety my birds like best is not on the on-line delivery list for anyone I know - it either comes from Costco for $6.50 a 20 lb bag or the bird store for almost $20 a 20 lb bag.

If I do get bored I can get the 20' antenna out of the garage and strap it to the corner of the rec room and fire up my CB and Ham radios. But I would have to be desperate for that - I can only take so much of "I just put a new fritz bug on the flimflam and tuned it to my 10 meter do-hickey - hows she sounding out there?" I mean, couldn't they at least talk about the weather? Before someone asks why I have the radios if I don't like what I hear = I used to be in a REACT unit and monitored the emergency frequencies for CB but they almost all use their cell phones to call for help now. I got my Ham license through CERT but they haven't been called on to do anything. And my other use for the Ham radio is railroad frequencies for the Railway Museum Operations Department I belong to - But the museum is closed until...

You got a Flimflam too? Nikon or Canon mount?

“25 best Movies about real Photographers” that looks interesting. I’ve not see them all, but have seen a few.

There are also a lot of on-line tutorials that have been made free to view as well.

Good luck to you psfls. Hopefully you can make things work. My wife and I owned a small town bakery for almost 30 years, and quite frankly I cannot imagine how we could have made it through something like this if it lasts as long as it seems it might.

Bakeries, at least in California, are still open. You just have to limit how many people are in a store at a given time.

The very rare Speed Graphic version with an adapter to fit it to my Ham radio.

I wonder how many out there will think we are serious? I know there will be some since as Einstein probably never said "I know of only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity. And I am not sure of the former."

Photography on back shelf... Hanging out in Audio cave with renewed Audio interest. Building a new bookshelf system.... Perfectly happy in the recliner.

Aha, a radiographic recorder. Rare indeed. An excellent tool once calibrated.
