Catch of the Day 3-27-20

We have a bit of overcast sky today yet bright out there. I walked the yard with the Nikon Z6 with 29mm of extension tubes on the S-mount 24-70 lens to see how it would perform and these are some of the things that I came across out there. No flash used, just natural overcast light.

One was a tiny Jumping Spider which made my day. I surprised that it decided to leave the Texas Paradise Resort where it had been spending the winter. I also came across a tiny wasp crawling around looking for some sweet nectar as the pollen sticks to it.

I'm pleased with the first outing and with the size and ease of carry of the Z6 compared to my D810 with the 200mm F4 AF ED lens and all of its accessories attached.

What a great set, sippy. Not your normal genre, though. I think you and that Z6 are going to get along great.

Thanks, Kpmac. I was torn between the Z6, Z7, and the world-class D850. Because I have racked up so many shutter counts on my D810 I though that a mirrorless with an electronic shutter may be better for me. Then the Z6 and Z7 are very close except for the MP yet way different in price so I opted for the Z6.

HOWEVER...I invested in AF-ED lenses including the Nikon 200mm f4 AF-ED macro...AND...none of them auto focus on the Z6 or Z7 cameras. That was a real disappointment. They do work in every other way however they need to be manually focused.

Very good. Got a friend who just got the D850. Looking forward to see what he does with that. It's a heavy thing, though.

I am so pleased to see 'Catch of the day' return and these are all really nicely shot especially the tiny wasp.

Mark, so true. My D810 is in the same body class as the D850 and when I add the battery grip, flash and the 200mm macro lens I know that I'm lugging it all around.

I have no experience with Canon although I suspect that their high-end DSLR is not much different.

What I can say from my limited experience with the Z6 system is that it is small and light and the new "S" mount lenses are also quite light compared to the "F" mount system so they tend to compliment each other quite well.

I have a Fujifilm X-T20 which is a mirrorless system not much different in size than the Z6 however I really do not care for the way my hand purchases on the camera and it is difficult to keep the palm of my hand from hitting the buttons on the back which is a pain in the butt for me. I keep it on my macro setup now which I find it to be well suited for.

Brenda, it was a pleasant surprise to find it for I did not see it until I looked through the lens. I thought that it was a gnat or some other small flying insect and it wasn't until I got it in focus that I could see it was a very tiny wasp of some type.

In each passing day things are starting to pop here. All we need is a few days back to back of sun now for there is seldom a day that has not been grey sky, drizzle or rain.

Thanks, Napabob. We had a break in the gloom so I was able to walkabout. Sunny California should really be popping about now so I hope to see some of your work soon.
