When used on. a Nikon PB6 bellows on a D810Nikon Normal 50mm f/1.4 Manual Focus Lens (Non-AI) - Silver/Black (NOT for Digital)

I don't know why not. A 50mm prime is one option for a bellows system.

I agree, and inexpensive.
My first successful macros were with a Canon 40mm and 39mm of tubes.
Controlled tests with a bellows and finding ideal extension, then duplicating that with tubes, those being much more suitable for in the field use.

I agree with the consensus of the lens work-ability. I shoot the D810 with an assortment of old and non Nikon glass on a bellows and other means of extension including lenses in series as well as in reverse. I also use microscope objectives as the camera lens both configured as Finite and as Infinite with a tube lens.

Mounting your lens in a reverse manner will increase the amount of magnification. Should you do so, keep in mind that the effective f/stop will be the inverse of what the lens dial shows so keep the setting as open as possible.
