When used on. a Nikon PB6 bellows on a D810Nikon Normal 50mm f/1.4 Manual Focus Lens (Non-AI) - Silver/Black (NOT for Digital)
Used Cat #2116936
Nikon.
I don't know why not. A 50mm prime is one option for a bellows system.

I agree, and inexpensive.
My first successful macros were with a Canon 40mm and 39mm of tubes.
Controlled tests with a bellows and finding ideal extension, then duplicating that with tubes, those being much more suitable for in the field use.

Thank you very much Mark and Bill
Yes, It will absolutely work.
I agree with the consensus of the lens work-ability. I shoot the D810 with an assortment of old and non Nikon glass on a bellows and other means of extension including lenses in series as well as in reverse. I also use microscope objectives as the camera lens both configured as Finite and as Infinite with a tube lens.
Mounting your lens in a reverse manner will increase the amount of magnification. Should you do so, keep in mind that the effective f/stop will be the inverse of what the lens dial shows so keep the setting as open as possible.

Sorry, but in words that makes no sense to me. Would you please post an actual calculation as example ? Thank you.
