good morning all, I am going to Northern California and will not be able to lug my Nikon and gear with me this trip. Its been a decade or so since last purchase so don't know what bells and whistles are out there and would like to know before I step into a camera shop. So what do you all carry? Would like to stay around the $200 price range.
To the OP: These kinds of questions seem to invariably receive the "just use your I-phone" advice. Those who do, assume two things.
1. You have an I-phone. ("Everybody has a smartphone with a camera in it.")
2. You like taking pictures with a cell-phone.
Apparently it does not occur to them that maybe neither assumption is valid.

The Panasonic ZS100 can shoot raw, 4K video, has a 1" sensor, a 25-250 f/2.8-5.9 eq lens and, sized a little bit larger than a pack of cigarettes, fits in larger pockets. It is $150 cheaper than an FZ1000 and looks like a P&S, not a small DSLR.
I bought point and shoots for my son and daughter when the went to Europe on a college alumni trip over ten years ago. One was Canon, one was Nikon. Both came back with excellent photos. These were the type that could fit in your pocket. I particularly like the type that have a lever for zooming in and out. We never did blow any of these up to 8X10 size. Perhaps others might let you know how well that would work. They're great on the computer, especially, and carrying the cameras were very easy. A nice way to document the trip.
thanks for the heads up, like the Fujifilm xp140 as i kayak fish and am around water. Will look see at both suggestions.

How does the Fujifilm xp140 compare to the Olympus TG-5 or 6?
KEH used cameras are guaranteed and much more affordable. I have purchased 2
cameras in the past from KEH

Ofc, the Fujifilem xp140 is over twice your original budgeted amount. I was trying to stay within your parameters.
