Great work, Brent!

The chain image is the best one in this set, IMO. It would be a fine image in full color or B&W, and the selective color treatment makes it really special.

I'm not sure of how you did this, Brent. Do you have a few instructional tips? I suppose it involves converting a color image to b&w and masking what you want to save in color. But I can make any easy process ten times harder...

Carly, I'm the same way about making things complicated! I can relate.
Here's the simple way to accomplish what I have done in these photos:
1. In Photoshop duplicate the color image in layers
2. go to Image>adjustments>desaturate (this turns the color image to a B&W image but leaves the lower level in color)
3. get a nice soft eraser and erase out the areas you want the color to show through to the lower level
4. when you are happy with your results flatten the image and save it as a jpg

Put me down for numero uno. The composition is as compelling as the gradual addition of color. Nicely done.

Ava'sPapa, you are among the majority for liking numero uno! Good selection!

Yes, the splash of color is much more colorful than a full color photo. It is the Texas Pete in the bland B&W soup.

Very descriptive dpullum! love it!

Nicely done. So let us know how you did on the assignment, OK?

Well AzPicLady, yesterday was the class and the chain image (#1) was put up on the screen and critiqued by the class and instructor. Usually they pick apart a photo and list off all the negative parts about it. For this image there was not one negative thing said, only good positive comments. I felt fortunate.
This class is not graded so I didn't get anything but the positive critique.

Wow Stan, thanks so very much! I think most everyone likes #1 the best (with the exception of one vote for #3), so you are in good company.

thank you, Brent! This appears easy enough. I'll try it out, I'm bound to make 4 easy steps become 16 intensive and frustrating challenges of hurtles. A good assignment to try!
