The D6 is selling for the same release price as the D5 in 2016, $6500. I recently saw three You Tube Videos on the D6. They were the Angry Photographer, Fro Knows Photo, and Matt Granger. All three had negative reviews. Especially, the Angry Photographer. He said it should have been called the D5s, rather than the D6. It was first rumored to have a 24 megapixels sensor, and to have IBIS, for which it has neither. Anyway, despite these reviews. The camera is way over my budget.

So...the D6 (using sensor size as the measure of merit) is half the camera of the D850 and is twice the price of the D850. I can see a strong reason to buy the D6....I mean the 850.

I own both, I use the D5 for sports and low light conditions and D850 for every thing else. I was hoping the D6 would be combination of the D5 and D850 but its not. Looks like I will see what the D7 has to offer.

Without actually trying the D6 I do not see enough to replace my D5.

Your attitude is part of what will be Nikon's doom.

Tony Northrop posted a video about the D6 yesterday. Worth a look.

I hope to have a chance to fool with the D6 here at home this weekend. Nikon has yet to disappoint me very much. But our history only goes back to the 196?

Nikon celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017. The blockbuster D850 and D500, were an honorary anniversary DSLR release.

Ok.
Not sure where this is more than a very slight refresh of the D5.
Perhaps need more info.

No, I think you nailed it. As Nikon's new flagship DSLR, it appears underwhelming.

For me, I need much more info on the “new” AF system to justify paying $1000 more than the Current price for a new D5.

That is the big question.
What is this new AF in the camera?

That's all it is. Probably put it out because it was expected. Small adds for taking pics. Movie mode has some new features. I think they are going to focus more on mirrorless. Just my opinion. They didn't raise the price over the D5 when it was new. If your D5 is getting old it will fit the bill for a replacement.

@ $6400 what a bargain

I would like to see an "everyday" mphoto taken at ISO 3,280,000

Lucky for Nikon that all the naysayers here are not its target users for the D6. :)

Don't forget that the D6 has a new image processor, Expeed 6. That and the AF improvements may make it worth an upgrade to the pros. But for me on a retired SS income, I will have to think long and hard about it. I cannot see it being any better than the D3s, D4s, and the Z6 in low light captures. I have the D3s, which has always been at the top of the Dx0 list for low light performance for Nikons. I recently bought the Z6 and it has performed much better than the D3s has when images were cropped. The D5 was a step backward in ultra-high ISO (10-14000) and it was very disappointing in the noise department for the high school gyms that I shoot in. I am glad that the talking heads in Nikon decided to stay with the 20 mp sensor and didn't go bigger (truthfully, I wish they would have made a D5s/D6s version with a 16mp sensor and added all the AF performances and the color capture improvements above the D3s/D4s). Unless the D6 can make up for that, then I won't be getting one. I am on the NPS stand-by list to try one out---same as I did for the D5.

Sorry for the digressions here, but unless you have shot with the D3s, you won't have a clue about it's superiority in ultra-high ISO values around 10-12,000. Never mind what the Dx0 and Photons to Photos websites will say. I have the hands-on experiences, which are much more valuable that the lab testing and the D5 just did not measure up. Here's hoping that the D6 will have adopted some Z6 genes.....

The D5 has extended ISO to 3280000. It's marketing hype.

When I got a D5 I naturally had to try that out. In my opinion you can get a usable image at 3million only if you could have gotten a usable image at 100,000. Even then, you have to deal with noise and color shifts.

For practical uses, I limit my ISO to 25000, with an occasional excursion to 50,000. I try to keep things at 12K, but sometimes I have to go up a notch or two. Up there the images are grainy, but you can deal with it in post. Above 25K you might have to include downsampling.

You might be able to get a reasonable image at ISO 3million if you downsample to 640x480.

PS: my high ISO usage was indoor events. Mostly used for PR, with images going onto the web and maybe an occasional printed brochure. No real high resolution images in general, so the noise could be dealt with. For more mundane uses I shoot with my D4.
