good morning all, I am going to Northern California and will not be able to lug my Nikon and gear with me this trip. Its been a decade or so since last purchase so don't know what bells and whistles are out there and would like to know before I step into a camera shop. So what do you all carry? Would like to stay around the $200 price range.
$200 is pretty low for a good one. Those are the ones that have all but disappeared because smartphones work so much better. The biggest advantage to small "point and shoots" will be better lenses than can be squeezed into a phone. For the better glass, you may need to raise the budget!
I have a FF, crop, and 1" sensor camera. The 1" is great (a little above what you want to pay Sony RX100 vi but they have the smaller zoom models that get close to your price) Fits in my pocket, can print out pictures 13X19 that look as good as the FF prints.
I like the small Canon ELPH series pocket cameras. even a 190 takes great pics. I like the models that have an 8x to 10x zoom
I use the original Sony RX100. It has been great for many years. Nice photos, and problem free.
Anything in the Panasonic Lumix zs range will do you.
I started at $200 but can go up. thanks for your response.
After writing that you needed to spend more than $200, I checked B&H filtered for $150 to $200. There were a lot of choices! Some looked like fun!
thanks all for your help, off to the camera store.

If you can go to $400, the Olympus Tough TG-6 does a bunch of stuff your Nikon can't do. It will add to your capabilities rather than be a "lesser evil".

Last year my wife and I travelled to Italy. I almost had an ulcer deciding whether to bring my D750 and lenses, or not. Well, my wife asked that I not ruin the
vacation by carting all of that stuff around. She'll never see this so I'm going to admit that she was right. I bought and brought a Nikon A900 and truth be told I came home with some really nice shots. I believe I've seen them in the $200 price range. If you'd like, I could show you some of the photos. Good camera.

I could have bought a Panasonic FZ70, brand new, from the Best Buy Store for $189. A close out sale two years ago. I missed out of that Sale, because I decided to go back and buy it the next day.. The few they had were sold out in one day. I still had my Nikon Bridge camera at that time. But, it didn't compare to the FZ70. It had a focal range to 1200mm, shot in RAW, and had a hot shoe for a flash unit. I'm content now, with my Nixon Bridge camera. As, I'm wishing to purchase something else for the near future. For $200, I doubt you will find a used Bridge camera with a 1" sensor. You're only likely to find a used one with a 1/2.3" sensor. I would suggest you go to EBay, KEH, or MPB. I know amateur/hobbyist, like myself, who have found bargains at those three websites. I suggest Canon, Sony, Panasonic, and Nikon, as choices. Point and shoot cameras, can also be compact and pocket cameras. Good luck.
It's sharp enough to read the names on this old warbird.

Not bad for landscape detail, either, even when shot from a boat.

I have an IPhone 5 and an Iphone 6s. I no longer use them and they are not activated but I realize that they can be used as cameras without activating.

After I responded to your question I took a trip down memory lane. Here are a few pics taken with the Nikon A900. I bought the Sony RX10 MKIV recently and was prepared to complement that with the RX100 MKVII (which I know is the cream of the crop), but I 'm so pleased with this Nikon I just can't pull the trigger for the RX100. The Nikon has 20 megapixels, 5 axis vibration reduction, 4k ultra HD video, tilt screen, built in Wi-Fi & bluetooth and a 35X super zoom!! That's 24-840mm.!! Pretty impressive in my book. It also has a great little macro mode. I've seen them going for in the $200 range. Good luck in your quest. I just saw a refurb. on ebay for $175.
