I went to Sault Ste Marie, MI looking for Snowy Owls. We saw six males and two females, only one flight shot, but both were magnificent. Tough shooting conditions, gloomy skies, snowy, or blowing snow, and just poor light. Comments and criticisms welcomed. Gary

As a side note, my camera gear was transported for me so I did have to carry it with me on the airlines. My gear was left out in the cold for two days in the trunk and when I finally retrieved my gear, all of the batteries were dead (My first experience with a cold dead battery). I panicked as I was getting ready to go out and shoot the first day. I placed all of the batteries near a heating unit and within 5 - 10 minutes they were back to normal. I did keep spare batteries with me, but I used the same battery in both of my cameras (Canon 7D Mkii and 6D) and no need to change them out until I was at the end of my three day trip. About 620 shots with my 7D and only 50 with my 6D. Most of the days was spent driving in search of the Owls. Some would stay while we would shoot and others would fly quickly.

Definitely worth the effort. Both are great but love the flight shot. Great light and, for lack of another word, the texture of the bird.

If you had only gotten the one in flight, the trip would have been worth it! Beautiful.

Thanks for the info on batteries. I have wondered if they would return to normal after being left in the cold or frozen. I once knew someone who froze his batteries in his freezer until near time he needed them and have often wondered if that is or is not a good way to store batteries. Wonderful shots.

Nice shots. Such a magnificent raptor. I've been looking all over for one here but they aren't at their usual spots yet. Gary
