Some of the photos are shot with the Nikon 70-200 2/8 & 50 mm 1.8
Today I am waiting for the brown truck to deliver a 50mm 1.4 lens. I will try it out tomorrow night.

The first image is epic... totally in mid-air!
Wonderful series as always...

So is the 1.4 50mm a Sigma Art or a Nikkor...
btw, I recently sold my AF-S 50mm f/1.4G Nikkor...
It was the slowest focusing Silent Wave lens I've ever used...
Had to be stopped down to f/2 for decent acuity...

However I may have had a lame copy...
That said my AF-S 35mm f/1.8 DX Nikkor rocks!
And the price is right...

Keep up the good work!

Hi Thomas:
I get what your saying. I will try the new lens out tonight. If the quality and speed of the focus is not better than the 1.8 I have it will go back to B and H. We shall see. I have taken some shots around the house, but the house is not moving and in low light. lol I will post pics.

Jules I hope your copy works well for you...
The good news is it has a gasket on the lens' mount... which is a nice touch...

The not so good news is at 1.4 it has significant issues with chromatic aberration (a.k.a. color fringing) i.e. wide open. Any area that is just out of focus will suffer this... so totally frustrating... while you can remove the baby blue and pink halos in post you can not recover the lost acuity they cause... high contrast boundaries are the worst offenders. Test for this, k?

Stop down to 2.8 and the color fringing vanishes...
While my AF 85mm f/1.4D will also exhibit color fringing wide open (f/1.4) it isn't nearly as pronounced (at least on my copy). Hoping you get a good one :)

Keep shooting... Thanks!

Here's DxOmark's test results on the AF-S 50mm f/1.4G
https://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Nikon/AF-S-Nikkor-50mm-f-1.4G
Click on Measurements Then Select the Sharpness Tab
Study the Sharpness Tab under
https://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Nikkor/AF-S-Nikkor-50mm-f-1.4G---Measurements#measuretabs-2

Scroll up and Click on Field Map which is most revealing
This shows the optical field acuity (sharpness across the entire frame at varying f-stops)
Check out how atrocious it is at f/1.4 (wide open)
Albeit it does become rather stellar when you click on f/2.8

This is what I discovered in my testing also...
thanks!

I will try this lens out and if it doesn't perform the way I want it, back it goes my friend. Just a tad under $500.00 no way.
I practiced all morning and came up with 1.8 1.4 is useless. Sharp at 2.2 and 2.8 and above.

Exactly what I found... Wasn't till at east f/2 that it started to look decent...
Yes at f/2.8 it is good, but at the asking price it's not what I consider a bargain.
I paid full price back in 2013 ~ $469 I believe... Sold it recently for $200...

Please consider a Nikon USA Refurb... B&H is selling this for $349
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/731082-REG/Nikon_2180B_Refurbished_AF_S_Nikkor_50mm.html

Used prices on that 50mm f/1.4 with a 30 day return and a 180 day warranty are running ~ $250 to $290

btw, my Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM for Nikon is listing for $365 at B&H
While it's a DX it is sharp in the center wide open... the issue is using non cross type AF points which can be inconsistent... if you focus in the center of the frame it's stellar... better value in my humble estimation... and with image stabilization it's awesome for shooting events... Only down side is it's heavy... Pro Glass and if feels it at 565 grams...

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/689623-REG/Sigma_583306_17_50mm_F2_8_EX_DC.html/specs

On your D500 it might do the trick...
https://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Sigma/17-50mm-f-2.8-EX-DC-OS-HSM-Nikon-mounted-on-Nikon-D500---Measurements__1061
Click on Sharpness, Then Field Map, Then Select 50mm... Notice it rocks wide open at 2.8 nearly equal to the 50mm f/1.4G Nikkor at f/2.8... AND it has image stabilization! how cool is that! Gives you some nice focal length choices... remember it's 25mm to 75mm... a little soft in the corners at 25mm wide open but still sharp in the center...

Hi Thomas: What do you think. I still have to get use to the lens if I keep it. The focus has to be exact as far as how many feet to the basket, etc. Do you think the Sigma 17-55 has quicker focus better quality, etc.? Here goes. These were shot at 1/800 at 2.2 iso 5000. Be honest.

Last shot 50mm 1.8
