Yup, the $10 plan is your best option, unless you really need that storage!

I have been back in the photography hobby for about two years. Shoot Nikon D7200, Lumix FZ1000 and an old Nikon P5000 P&S. Purely a hobby type trying to be as artistic and creative as my talents allow.

Have been a subscriber to the Adobe Creative Cloud for the same period. My plan is the CC Photography Plan w/1TB (which has LR Classic, LR CC and PS). I have only ever used the LR Classic software. I like it, but am paying $21.19 monthly ($254.28 annually). Seems a bit steep as it goes on forever and will never go lower.

So, need advice on any software which can do close to what LR Classic does insofar as organizing, processing, etc.. Also concerned with the effort of transitioning from LR to another software.

Have spent some time browsing info on Gimp, Luminar 4, Raw Therapee but need thoughts from seasoned pros who have made a similar switch and been satisfied. Just an old geezer here on a fixed income who would like to save a few bucks and still be satisfied with my images.

I would recommend downloading the free 30 day trial of "On1 Photo RAW 2020" and try it. I have been using ON1 Photo RAW now for 4 years and find it more than an adequate replacement for Lightroom and also for a good deal of what Photoshop can do. It costs nothing to give it a try and it may very well be all that you would need too.

Change your plan to the $10 / month version. You seem to have picked the wrong one from their menu of options.

Yep, the trick I use is a synced collection for my “working” library, which sometimes gets close to 20GB, and an unsynced “archive” collection of everything else.

Try Cyberlink PhotoDirector. Lightroom clone, so minimal learning curve
Usually on sale, both subscription and stand alone. Don't buy at full price, but even that is cheaper than Adobe.
Has Layers which lightroom doesn't.
They keep adding a ton of presets (styles) which can be fun if you're in to that sort of thing.
Here is a little review - https://www.pcmag.com/review/268050/cyberlink-photodirector
Check it out.

I think you’re the first person I’ve seen mention PhotoDirector. I’ve been using it for a couple of years and it seems to fairly feature full but I’ve only been doing this for a few years. Give the price and that I was just starting out, it seemed like a good starter choice. Over the years they keep improving the product and adding functionality like layers that now I’m hard pressed to find a reason to move away other than popularity and thus resources available for Lightroom.
