Jon is special needs, 27 but mentality of 5 years. He loves trains, has a pretty good memory for some things my wife takes him on rides when they can. He has also ridden the 4449 from Portland up into Washington and back. Amtrack, Metrolink in the LA area or our trains at the museum in Perris. He loves them all. He also has a talent for making friends so he will make friends with the crews and guides and get to do stuff most don't.
Today I downloaded Debra's shots from her SX50. Turns out there are about 6 videos mixed in with 65 stills. I will do something with them another time. That also goes for her Panasonic videocam. And it turns out her phone also - inside the dome car she was doing video with one hand and stills with the phone camera in the other hand. She really likes to do videos. I need to ask if Jon used his phone also. They just want to keep me busy.
I selected 12 shots for today's editing session. The last two will be in a following post on the thread. I will not put then in download. If anyone wants to see a download tell me which shots and I'll post them one at a time.
I did try a bit of a Dragon Effect on a couple.
Thats 10, two more up next.

Thank you.
Yikes the followup with two more images didn't post - maybe I should be awake when posting.
The other two. I found them in History (Chrome) I forgot to click "send". Clicked it from Chrome History and it posted - learned something new about Chrome and posting.
Now to go over their phones and the videocam. She just told me she did some stills with it also. I gotta get her to use the Canon 760D/T6s I got her, with the four lenses I will only have to go through one camera's memory card(s). Oh, yeah, she always has that phone.
Let's see:
SX50 - stills & videos
Panasonic videocam - videos and some stills
Samsung phone - stills and ? maybe some video
Jon's phone - who knows what - have to check
Hmm, she bought a lot of cereal last week when we were at Sam's Club. I better check to make sure she didn't get a "Secret Squirrel" camera broach or some such. Do they still put "prizes" in cereal and Cracker Jacks???
I think I need more coffee.
Jon posing for Mom after he is aboard
On the Bus back in Colton to go to the car
I forgot she always has her phone and the videocam does stills also

Enjoyed the series!
I may get a chance to see 4014 in November.

Great shots! Glad you got to see and photograph the "Big Boy" No. 4014 Engine. Did your son get to ride it as well. I was a bit confused on your details. I found out about it a bit late, when a Close Friend of mine lamented that he just missed photographing it as it went through the Nipton Train Station by minutes. He lives in Henderson, NV these days. By the time I could give it any thought or makes plans I also missed it at an ideal location at the Kelso Train Station. Since I have trouble walking and lately have been using a wheelchair it was not feasible for me to see it parked in Bloomington, CA. I'm in Pomona as you (Robert) know. To see it up close there you needed to park elsewhere and ride a shuttle. So my wife and I drove out to the Banning Pass I took photographs of the Steam Engine traveling from Beaumont to Indio. They are photos captured it with the San Jacinto Mountain in the background. Perhaps other train fans on the UHH would like to see my few Pix too. I'll make my own post.

I wasn't on this expedition. I have seen two different Big Boys on exhibit at museums over the years. Besides I sprained my ankle a couple days before their ride. So sitting home and not doing much to stay off my feet.
My wife took Jon. They bought tickets for one way Barstow to Colton* and rode a tour bus from Colton to Barstow, took part in the photo ops there and then rode the train back to Colton where a bus took them from the UP yard back to the parking area they used for the event.
The seats they had were upstairs in a Dome Dining Car - "Missouri River Eagle" and their seats 8A and 8B were the front end of the dome on the left side. Great view but they did have a couple of problems with "photographers" I will post shots of later. Today is Photo Club so I will be busy until this afternoon. Yesterday I think I finally got all the stills and video they shot downloaded. SX50, Panasonic video camera, two phones and they did shots with all of them. Stills and video on all four.
*Three kind of tickets for the "Rail Giants" museum fund raiser. Round trip Colton to Barstow and Back-over $1k each, Colton to Barstow and return by tour bus, or tour bus to Barstow and ride the train back to Colton. They chose to ride Barstow to Colton on the train.
