I really enjoy b&w too but I still absolutely love the color tones and will happily do a painting/pastel version this winter!

IMHO the person who told you to crop & convert to B&W was mistaken! The foreground anchors the shot and provides a needed warm color contrast to counter the cool tones of the midground and background. It also provides a better sense of depth.

Thanks to everyone that replied and gave their opinion. The reason I did the 2nd version like I did is because someone didn't like the little trees in the foreground.
So trying to kill 2 birds with one stone I converted the original to B&W and cropped out the trees at the same time.
I'm sorry that I couldn't get the B&W conversion better. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to look the way I wanted it to.
So thanks again to everyone for your valuable insight and taking the time to reply!

Actually one person didn't like the trees and one wanted to see a B&W conversion.
I tried to do both at one time.
But I agree with you, I do like the color version with the trees in the foreground much better.

I think I'm staying what everyone else is. #1 Even though there isn't a lot of color the color that's there adds a lot to the photo. I also don't like the crop of #2, The photo doesn't have a base.

I like the crop on the B&W. Thanks for giving that a try.

OK, I had a couple of requests about this image from my Down in the Valley series.
Someone thought it would look better with the line of little trees in the foreground cropped off.
Someone wanted to see it in B&W.
So here is a version that is cropped and rendered in B&W.
Personally I like the little trees in the foreground and I like the color version better.
But different people have different tastes. Being the nice guy I am, I try to be accommodating.
What say you, Hoggers? Please try the downloads.

I like the B&W as the color really doesn't add anything to the photo, in my opinion.
However, I don't like the crop, do the original in B&W.
