On the way home from Rocky Mountain N.P., we did a quick side trip to Fantasy Canyon (FC). FC is located about 45 miles south of Vernal, Utah is approximately 10 acres in size and is administered by the BLM. This site is remote in the sense that it is in the middle of nowhere and amenities are a vault pit toilet and vague trails. There is good roadside signage directions to FC and only the last 5 miles are on dirt roads. Also, there is a BLM office in Vernal where a FC brochure and directions are available. I would only recommend going here in good weather as I can image a muddy mess otherwise.

See Wikipedia for more information and history on FC...The rocks are composed of quartzose sandstone and were deposited during the Eocene Epoch...we all remember those days, right!! These photos were taken late afternoon after a passing storm to the west. The stand-alone "whodo's" in the photo are 6-8 feet tall! My camera battery died right at sunset or I would have stayed longer.

This (these) is/are a bit of a departure for you, Jim. And its one I like A LOT! We live in a fantasy of a state, don't we....

Don't ordinarily use emojis, but now and then they're warranted:

Definitely alien and I think I saw a couple of them peeking out. Nice shots and a good find.

Many, many thanks Cany. I have been wanting to get to this site for several months and this trip offered that opportunity, albeit, too short. Would only recommend going when fair weather/winds gently billows your sails!!

Utah is a magic wonderland of diverse sights and am so pleased that my wife agreed to move here 26 years ago when I retired. Utah has given me immense pleasures every since our relocation and I am continually pursuing its awe inspiring wonders. I will return to Fantasy Canyon again!!

Carol, I had goosebumps when the sun went down and was wishing I had packed a handgun, or raygun!!

Cool images. Makes you think that Antoni Gaudí spent his "formative years" in Utah before changing Barcelona's "look."
