Landscape Scenes From A Different Galaxy - Fantasy Canyon, Utah

On the way home from Rocky Mountain N.P., we did a quick side trip to Fantasy Canyon (FC). FC is located about 45 miles south of Vernal, Utah is approximately 10 acres in size and is administered by the BLM. This site is remote in the sense that it is in the middle of nowhere and amenities are a vault pit toilet and vague trails. There is good roadside signage directions to FC and only the last 5 miles are on dirt roads. Also, there is a BLM office in Vernal where a FC brochure and directions are available. I would only recommend going here in good weather as I can image a muddy mess otherwise.

See Wikipedia for more information and history on FC...The rocks are composed of quartzose sandstone and were deposited during the Eocene Epoch...we all remember those days, right!! These photos were taken late afternoon after a passing storm to the west. The stand-alone "whodo's" in the photo are 6-8 feet tall! My camera battery died right at sunset or I would have stayed longer.

Certainly offers a look into our planet's early history, one can only imagine what the landscape looked like in order to create these remnant features! Great set!

Many thanks, FL...I also wonder what the creatures that roamed this area looked like...wouldn't want to meet them face-to-face!!

Very interesting images of FC. Thanks for sharing. Your fish image on the left side looks like an elephants trunk?

Many thanks Earnest...I'm gonna have to go back again at some point. There was a lot to photograph but with darkness coming and a dead battery, I missed the opportunity to finish our visit.

Thank you Katydid. It was a fun time exploring this unusual location and you need more time than I had to really enjoy the sights. We got there late after too many previous photo stops that day.
