Today, the crew started building the fire to slowly heat up #168 to full steam!

This locomotive was purchased by Denver & Rio Grande RR in 1883.
Baldwin Locomotive Works built it.
It is a narrow gauge locomotive and ran on the DRGW narrow gauge tracks for 50 years (I assume this includes Chama to Antonito). Retired in 1933 and put on display in a park in Colorado Springs for 85 years.
Hard work from many workers and sponsors have all brought the 168 to what it is today.
Also, the Special Projects Dept for the C&TSRR is currently working on 3 or 4 cars to create a special train for 168 to pull.

The 168 had a new boiler installed in 1915 that changed the look of the locomotive. This special train is going for the look of the 1915 era.

The 168 had already passed its steam test. Time for more testing.
I'm sure it will get some solo track time. If all goes well, I expect some cars will be added to allow a little tug from behind for more testing.
This will also, give time for several crew members to learn to fire and operate the locomotive.

If all goes well, 168 will officially makes its debut in 2020. Which will be C&TSRR's 50th anniversary of operations.
Many images inside the cab to see everything.

It is a good thing it was there. That is a mobile grease trailer. It has grease, oil, gear oil, water, and probably a welder/generator to provide electric and welding capabilities. On second look it is a portable steam cleaner/pressure washer.
