Was eating lunch with fellow Friends of the C&TSRR in Antonito this summer. Afterwards, we visited the Stockton Locomotive Works, shop in town.
I had no idea any of this was here.....
The images below are of the White Pass & Yukon Railroad Locomotive #61.
It is a narrow gauge locomotive.

Stathi, the owner is confident he can rebuild this locomotive. It will be a long term project as it is worked on in spare time. He has done a lot so far. A lot of parts will have to be manufactured.
Check out the link below for more images including the locomotive being used as river rip rap in Alaska for 40 years (in the river for 40 years).
Will have to scroll down for the river images.

The main thing were a few images of the locomotive in the water and being pushed around on its side with a bulldozer.

In pic #5 there is scrawled "JB Weld" with an arrow pointing at a massive amount of rusty damage.
I have seen JB Weld accomplish a lot of repairs, however, I believe that this repair will prove to be rather ambitious.
Then again faith can move mountains, and I wish him well in this undertaking.

Thanks Pat,

I had no idea. Once it is restored is the plan to sell it back to WP&YR or will it be kept in the lower 48? Please keep us posted on the project's progress.

That area was talked about.
Stathi said the liner was the main strength to the cylinder. Stathi plans to build the missing area up using the old liner as backing. Then replace the liner. Well, that's how I understood what he described. He didn't seem to think it was a major problem.
I would have thrown in the towel seeing the images of the locomotive laying in the river....

Good for him, I rode that train out of Skagway to Whitehorse in 1959.
