I have 3 friends that own this lens. All 3 of their lenses failed them in a matter of days. During a hot humid period . At the 500mm position the zoom ring wouldn't turn lower than 400mm. The lens was stuck between 400 and 500mm. Some say the zoom got stuck because it was a hot day. I live in Montreal. Canada. Does this happen in Florida or other southern parts of the country, where it's even hotter climate. Anyone with this lens experience the same thing ?

They sent them to Nikon to get fixed, and they were, but don't really trust them anymore

I just came back from Costa Rica, the second trip, where I used this lens daily, same with last trip. No problems with my lens. I do have a Tamron 150-600 that is a dud! Had the autofocus fixed by Tamron twice now.

I might have to rethink saving for this lens. I'll watch this post.

No problems here. Had the lens for 1.5 years. Pictures are still tack sharp, but gosh it is heavy!

I've had mine for 3 years; it's a beast to carry, but a great lens. Not a single problem.

WANT AD - Need lens bearer, nonexistent wages, appalling conditions. Apply within.

I've had mine for over 3-1/2 years. Use it regularly with no problems.

Two years and counting with no such problems. Others have mentioned the weight. I only use this lens when I know that it will be a “tripod day,” not a fast hike through the woods.

I have had my 200-500 since it came out and have used it daily in Florida Wetlands and have NEVER had an issue like that with my lens. Are you SURE they are telling you the truth.
Please read the reviews on B&H web site. They have had 617 reviews and I bet none of them list the issues you have written. I find it VERY HARD to believe that all three lenses failed in a matter of days. Just does not sound right. I don't believe it.
