After 40 using Canon DSLR cameras I am switching to Sony Mirror-less

I have used Canon for 40+ years. My current camera is the EOS 1DS Mark III. I bought this new and love the camera. I shoot mostly landscapes. My photography today is changing and I need more dynamic range. The Canons maximum ISO is 3200 and there is a lot of noise to deal with. The Sony I have selected is the new Alpha 7R IV. I purchased two lenses, Both G master lenses. The Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS and the Sony SEL24-70mm GM. I expect the camera around Oct 15. Can someone tell me; am I going to be happy with the Sony? This has left a big hole in the coffers, so to those that use the earlier models of the Alpha 7R series, is there something you couldn't live without for your Sony camera?
PS... I am also looking at the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Wide-angle Zoom. Is this a good choice or is there something else I overlooked.
I respect everyone's opinion here. Canon users, please don't lambast me and tell me I have made a big mistake. The deed is done, I'm switching to Sony.

It doesn't really matter which brand you switch to. The Canon camera you were using is an antique by today's standards.
Do you feel like you've done the wrong thing!? As far as, the deed is done and being lambasted by Canon users, why do you think like that!? You purchased a good camera and it should serve you well for a long time. My daily shooter is a Canon 5D mk IV and it does a good job for me as I'm sure your A7R IV will do for you. Seriously, they are just cameras, not an extension of yourself.

Keep in mind your comparison of ISO performance dates to a camera from 2007 where time has moved on and even entry-level Rebel models of 2019 have more resolution and perform much better at ISO-3200 than your older camera.

Keep in mind too that Sony has nothing like the professional ergonomics of an EOS 1-series. You can customize the menus, but always not as much as you really want. The buttons take getting used to and they're not the natural feel and logical placement of a 1-series body.

Keep in mind too the 61 MP RAW files of the Sony will be insanely detailed and insanely large. Have you made preparations for disk space and the RAW files confirming your computer and software can open, process and store these images?

Learn to use and enjoy the EVF and the 1-twist option on the Sony lenses to 'pop' the zoom in the electric view finder to 10x at the AF point. There are many things that will justify the change to mirrorless, although it seems maybe you've leaped before really looking at what Canon has to offer today for DSLR and MILC.

I've handled a few different models/makes and for me, they are too small in my big hands. If I ever change it will only be when they make a bigger sized version..the price also deters me, much less "workings" but almost twice the price in some cases. Hopefully they will come down in price when they become more popular...

Thank you for your post. I should add I rented a Canon 5Ds R, for a month. The photos were fantastic. Tack sharp and plenty of room to crop and still have a very nice size after cropping. I usually shot a little wide for just that reason, room to crop.

Yeah, I have a two HDD NAS drive with two separate network drives and two 8TB HDD, one for my catalog and one for backup. I have so many redundancies built into my setup. I probably have 20TB of open HD space. The hardest part is keeping track of everything.

I just switched from Nikon to Sony and I am loving the Sony a7 Mark III. I do portraits, landscapes, and family shots. I had opted for the 24-105, which I liked better than the 24-70 on this full-frame camera. I got a deal on a used 70-200/4 lens, but my favorite lens is the 16-35/2.8 G-Master. I just added two primes and the 12-24/4 after selling a lot of my Nikon gear. The Sigma 35/1.4 is sweet!

My camera is too new to upgrade already and I'm sure Sony will come out with better and better cameras every few months! They listen to their customers and the buttons on the camera you are getting are already an improvement. I can't wait to see what they come out with next!

You have not made a mistake!!

Let me address your question about wide angle lenses. Since you already will own a very good 24-70 the 16-35 will in part duplicate that range. I was in a similar situation--I have a A7 III with a 24-105 which I love for travel (currently in Spain). I decided to get a Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 rather than a zoom. This is a fabulous lens in every respect--I have never regretted that decision. And it is not very heavy--perfect for my travel kit.

I had Pentax K-S1 DSLR and I was still learning it when I saw mirrorless Sony A6000 @ Sam's Club for $425.00 with 2 lenses... I could not withstand the temptation and purchased it. After 4 years of comparing and extensively using both I came to the conclusion that Pentax DSLR is superior to mirrorless Sony.. despite the fact of its bigger weight and size.
I love Sony and enjoy taking pics with it but... Pentax controls come naturally to you as well as the quality of landscape pictures. I think pentaprism view finder in Pentax does terrific job. May be I am wrong but Sony Alpha 6000 gives me a feeling that I have a high level point and shoot camera.

I wouldn't know either if I do have both Canon and Sony equipment. What's right for me is not neccesarily right for the OP. I really meant only OP would know if the move is a right move. There isn't any helpful answer to such a question possible. The OP has 40 years of experience, there is nobody that can say if he did right or wrong.

When I became a member here, I was in the process of thinking of switching camera brands, and I wanted information / advice before spending money. That may just be me - but I don’t see as much utility in learning about issue afterwards.

I have the 24 - 70 GM lens and it is fabulous. Great at low light and very sharp. You have the superior body (I have the A7r3) but it produces wonderful shots. Paul (Chg-Canon) made a very good point about space in your computer. I get 84MB full frame shots. You will get more. It does not take long to clog things up. Get a good external hard drive.
