Those "goiing viral" German hearing aids
What a bunch of crap. I called and could not get an answer to the simplest of questions: "What is the price range for these hearing aids?" It's perhaps not a scam, but it's an outfit I'd say away from!
If only you could say that just a little bit louder --
Hearing aids and dramatic hearing loss. Don't expect hearing aids to bring back normal hearing.
Want to "test drive" a German hearing aid with all costs told to you? Try Costco. You will need to schedule an appointment.
Another rant.
The term "hearing aid" is owned.
To get a "real" legal hearing aid you need to get tested, configured etc by proper people.
That'll be a couple grand. And up. Waay up. My Corps doc recommended a $6200 (to me) set.
My last "real" ones amplified the bass too much. Whoa- I can really hear those trucks and cars and planes- oh my! Conversations- notso much, and they got drowned out.
*My* best one was a $10 shirt pocket one ear thingie. No bass, but great on voice frequencies. It died.
My next, and still using, is a Walker Hunter's. $69 at the local Big5. Great product. I may get a spare.

There are now a number of companies selling high-quality hearing aids for around $1800 per set. You have to figure that when you pay Beltone $6000 you are paying for their rent and the salary of the audiologist who will provide "free" hearing tests and follow-up services for your hearing aids. The better hearing aids are Blue-tooth enabled so that you can adjust the volume and program from your smart phone. You can also listen to your phone through the hearing aid, and you can get a transmitter to transmit directly from your TV.
I agree with sb, I'm using those "new German" hearing aids from Miracle Ear. Cheaper than over the ear type, app on my phone to control how loud, direction, treble/bass, etc. and good follow up service.
Good article in the WSJ last Saturday on hearing aids. Paper is probably still at your local library.
My wife recently bought her first hearing aids from Costco. She paid around $2,500 for the rechargeable pair, half the price that was quoted elsewhere. Costco also has battery operated ones for less. All follow up appointments are free and COSTCO LETS YOU TRY THE HEARING DAYS FOR 180 DAYS AND RETURN THEM FOR A FULL REFUND WITHIN THAT PERIOD if you’re not satisfied.
My last three sets of hearing aids all came from Costco! I love them. Great service and nice people..

In early July I scheduled an appointment at Costco for hearing aids. My appointment is tomorrow and I keeping an open mind on what brand and type I shall get. In the past two-three years I have tried six or seven mail order ones from $15.00 to $90.00. Background noise seems to be amplified more than conversations and television. I am looking forward to hearing my bride's lovely voice again.

In sure a lot of people are like my father. His hearing deteriorated over the years. He resisted getting a pair because he didn't want anyone to think he was elderly. He didn't want a cane either. He was very stubborn. Finally he accepted and appreciated the cane. The VA doctor had him fitted for a pair of hearing aids. He didn't mind them too much. He called them, "his pickles". He actually enjoyed listening to my wife and I whispering. All the while he heard everything we had said.
I've been wearing aids since 1956. Used to have Beltone. Have also had Phonak, Siemens, et al. First pair had the aids in the temples (arms) of glasses which I did not need. Hated them. Went from there to behind the ear models, then in the ear, and currently in the canal. All my aids have had molds made to fit my ear. I don't like the current crop with the universal interchangeable earpieces as opposed to the molds. My current aids are Siemens. I still had insurance from my former employer as well as my wife's employer and only had to pay $300 for a pair. Not anymore though what with my Medicare Advantage plan covers. I remember using the older mercury batteries before they were outlawed. Went from them to Silver Oxide and now Zinc Air cells. Bottom line, get what works for you....

Beltone was rated one of the worst in Consumer Reports a couple of months ago.

Consumer Report says Costco is best. Sam’s club would be my next choice which is where I got mine... but going to Costco for my next pair.
