When my family moved to South Bend 59-1/2 years ago, this building was the Northeast building in a rectangle - 2 blocks by a mile - of similar buildings just South of downtown ..... but this building was special - it had nicer windows and a nicer front end, because it was the Headquarters of Studebaker. A few years later the company left town, then went out of business, and they gave this building to the school system to use as their headquarters. In later years, the school system built new buildings for themselves, and now this building just sits .... looking mostly as it did sixty years ago.
Meanwhile, most of the other buildings in what is now called "The Studebaker Corridor" have been torn down and replaced by an industrial park. One factory remains - the building which can kind of be seen behind this building - and it has been "modernized" {mostly new windows} and even received some national attention when the mayor made a big announcement there.
But this one just sits. I wonder if anyone has good plans for it.

About the only museum that has worked here is the "National Studebaker Museum"; even the "National College Football Hall of Fame" moved to Atlanta ..... despite being close to Notre Dame Univ ..... leaving the city stuck with yet another idiosyncratic building.
Nice architecture shot--good work.
My uncle was an engineer for Studebaker until it closed; then he moved to Phoenix and worked as an aircraft parts designer.
The trees make it a tough architectural shot. Back in the early sixties while working for Studebaker I visited the museum here. There was a beautiful Mercedes Benz 300SL center stage. Studebaker had a fleeting relationship with them which appeared in Lark styling cues. Thanks for posting this.

Yes, I tried various angles with two different lenses before I settled on this one - only way I could get good view of the side and the front door {and not stand in the street}
