The Putra Mosque (Malay: Masjid Putra) is the principal mosque of Putrajaya Wilaya, Malaysia. Construction of the mosque began in 1997 and was completed two years later. It is located next to the Perdana Putra, which houses the Malaysian Prime Minister's office and man-made Putrajaya Lake. In front of the mosque is a large square with flagpoles flying Malaysian states' flags.

The pink-domed Putra Mosque is constructed with rose-tinted granite and consists of three main functional areas – the prayer hall, the Sahn, or courtyard, and various learning facilities and function rooms. The mosque can accommodate 15,000 worshippers at any one time.[1]

The pink-domed Putra Mosque is constructed with rose-tinted granite and can accommodate 15,000 worshippers at any one time. The basement wall of the mosque resembles that of the King Hassan Mosque in Casablanca, Morocco.

The Sahn, landscaped with several decorative water features and bordered by colonnades, provides a huge yet welcoming and beautiful prayer space.

Its impressive minaret is influenced by the design of the Sheikh Omar Mosque in Baghdad. At 116m, it is one of the tallest minarets in the region and has five tiers, representing the Five Pillars of Islam.

Hi,

This is pretty new Muslim Mosque built around 1997. The dress code for tourists is pretty standard in Muslim world, for short dress you have to cover as the pictures indicated.

Malaysia is a multi-confessional country whose most professed religion is Islam. As of 2013, there were approximately 19.5 million Muslim adherents, or 61.3% of the population. Islam in Malaysia is represented by the Shafi'i version of Sunni theology and jurisprudence.

As you can see, the 17-40 len is not wide enough on a crop-body (T2i)....Get a FF when you want to shoot huge structure or interior....

Hope you have a glimpse of Asian Muslim world through the pictures (way more moderate....) - I have been in Saudi once.

Thanks CPR! Totally agree with you.

The mosque is huge and the gate is also so big and high. My crop body and 17mm is still not wide enough after the vertical correction applied. The best place to take picture of this mosque is from the river on the side or in the back of the mosque at blue hour or at night. We were with the tour so did not have much time but visiting the place.

Those are great looking photos of the Mosque. I've seen other photos of Mosques in other locations, and all have been exquisite in build and beauty. My cousin from Tennessee, bought his very first DSLR this past Spring from a pawn shop, in very good condition. A Canon T4i with an 18-55mm lens. He brought his family to Southern California for the very first time, and took lots of photos with just that one lens. He wants another zoom lens with a longer focal range. I know a friend who owns a Canon Rebel Series camera. He bought a Canon 10-18mm lens used. And he loves it. You may want to consider it. With Canon's 1.6X factor, you'll get slightly above a 15mm FOV. Thereabouts? Because of its success, Nikon came up later with a 10-20mm for crop sensor only. I'm considering purchasing one. Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos you took. I downloaded them too.

Thanks so much for your input mas24...

Since then I'd gotten the FF body, so the 16-35L f2.8 (not a cheap len for any manufacturer) has been my primary len for Landscape and Interior shots....

Best regards

I love these structures just as I love the cathedrals of Europe. I am always overwhelmed by the intricate beauty and details that are placed in these sacred spaces and the sheer size of them is beyond my comprehension.

They are so interesting and inviting and I am unable to choose between them all. Since I feast with my eyes , I am saturated almost instantly by wonder of these objects to God. I hope he appreciates them as I do and is not offended by their opulence and clearly over - top - expenditures. WOW.

Thanks Saigon.......lucky you man !
