Try to get to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. About an hour from Lancaster; it's a photographer's dream if you enjoy taking images of the beauty of flowers.

Excellent suggestion. In addition to flowers there is an amazing fountain garden, actually two, and other structures and water features in the landscape.

My wife and I will be leaving Michigan on Sept 22 and heading to the Sight and Sounds theater in Lancaster. We will be travelling through Ohio and Pennsylvania before arriving in Lancaster. Can anyone provide me info on photo opportunities or things to see/do either in route or while in Lancaster County We will be on the road for approximately 10 days.
Thanks a bunch

You can swing through Gettysburg on the way there or back. You can go by old route 30 (The Lincoln Highway)

Hi Michiganders,
Greetings, not sure which way you will come from Michigan but some take Rt 80 and some take the turnpike, nice drive for the most part, central Pa is nice.
I have lived in Lancaster Pa for the last 15 years (originally from the Detroit Mi area) and in my opinion Lancaster Pa is one of the most beautiful places in USA! Great opportunity for pictures although I would recommend wisdom in taking pictures of the Amish. They do not like a camera in their face but you can shoot from a distance with tele like other places. The work on their fields with horse and mule drawn farm equipment is cool but be sure you pull off the road in a safe place. There is a place near Sight and Sound theatre that is called “the Amish experience” where you can take the pictures you want and they offer tours, which is a great way to get pictures as well on the tour. You will find some buggy ride places are cool because some will let you take pictures as you travel on the buggy but it’s better to ask ahead to make sure they do not mind, as there are those who provide buggy rides and do not want you to take pictures of the Amish. Sight and Sound theatre does not allow photography or video in their venue but sometimes if they have staff available and you call ahead they will allow visitors a tour of the facilities but you have to set it up ahead of time by calling them. If you shoot with a telephoto lens it’s good to have a tripod. The food stands on the side of the roads in Lancaster are great and sometimes if you are nice and ask politely they do not mind if you take pictures of their farm. And if you are really nice you may have the opportunity to build friendships with the Amish where you can come back again and visit them. There are many bed and breakfast places and also authentic Amish places to eat. I would recommend contacting the visitor center and research places to go. My wife and I love to drive in southern Lancaster county where there are incredible hills and valleys that are really picturesque. Most of all have a great time.

Park Place (formerly the famous Zinn's Diner) is where a lot of locals still eat.

If into nature I Highly recommend Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio. Beautiful trails, waterfalls and Awesome Fall foliage! Rated one of the Best State Parks in the USA!

Fallingwater is the name of the house. Take the New Stanton exit if on your way from Ohio or Donegal if on your way back.

Yes, the official name is the Railroaders Memorial Museum. The basic difference between the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and the Railroaders Memorial Museum is, one puts more emphasis on the Pennsylvania Railroad (Altoona) and one does not.

Anyhow there is a railroad museum in Strasburg, which is a long walk from Lancaster.

If you do go to Philly, probably the best photo spots are City hall, and the area around the art museum.
When the time gets closer, post here and we can provide location info.
