Professionals use their own P-mode, the others are for consumers and snappers.

Leave it that way, unless you have a good reason to change something.

Although I don't personally follow this method, it's probably a good suggestion in certain situations, such as walking around on the street and having maybe 1/2 second or less to catch some image. It's either that (or something similar) or miss the shot forever. My personal method in those situations is manual shutter, manual aperture, manual pre-set focus, and auto ISO and white balance.

Now, yes that is a Personal choice,( Full-Auto.) on your Camera, although a question to ask;
"What have your choice assisted you in Learning the variety of Creative aspects that you camera offers to you."??
Or possibly you are not concerned with learning these Creative aspects.

I keep my camera in AV mode set to f5.6 and auto ISO set within limits and auto focus. Since I use RAW I don't worry about white balance.

That would be a horrible technique for a Macro or Portrait or virtually anything but a well stopped down Landscape as it is a landscape technique.

I think you’re missing the point. This is about always having your camera set to take a quick unplanned shot. It’s not saying always shoot that way, but if it’s a quick shot it will cover many situations. Obviously if you’re shooting macro or a portrait you’re going to be set up for that.

Actually, I think YOU missed the point. The original post (asterisks mine):

Keep your camera on Auto-Everything as its standard stand-by configuration so you can get the grab shot.
*Leave it that way*, unless you have a good reason to change something.

That is why people are disagreeing...

I've started using AutoISO in "Manual" mode. Nikon D600, D7100, D5100. I love it; it's like P&S but easily customized. Try it!

I keep my D7100 on "Auto-no flash", "Auto ISO", and "A/M" focus. I sometimes go to Aperture priority when I'm photographing flowers. I make adjustments later with Lightroom.

Actually, "F8 and be there" is a street photography term, often attributed to noir-style photographer Weegee.

I believe the original quote was "f64 and be there." It was the mantra of Ansel Adams and his friends, the f64 Group back in their day.

BTW the 'home' settings for my D500 are; S=125, A=7.1, and ISO=400

This time the asterisks are mine.

I guess it comes down to what you think is a good reason to change something. Personally I don’t use auto-everything. I tend to leave it in aperture priority at around f8 with auto ISO. *Unless I have a good reason to change something*

Use P and pre-focus your lens at its hyperfocal distance.

P does stand for “P”rofessional mode...

I shoot full manual or aperture priority most all the time. My Camera just can’t read my mind nor see my vision.

The pic here was shot full manual at around 5:30am. Not sure how auto anything camera settings would do better... or even understood what I wanted.

& BTS... was breaking the set down and almost forgot to take a shot.

I use a manual focus lens.

But it has P, which is advanced auto.
