When we have an opportunity to look closely into their eyes of most animals e.g., primates, wolves, bears, our own pets, etc. we can sense intelligence and feeling looking back. Eight years ago the Detroit Zoo acquired three male grizzly cubs rescued in Alaska when their mother was shot by a poacher. We were fortunate to have a large habitat to accommodate them. When they arrived they were playful, 125 lb. cubs. They are now huge boys, still playful, but weighing from 880 lb. to 990 lb.

He looks like a happy camper! And he is enjoying a tasty snack. Oh wait! I don't want to get to close for fear that I'll be a tasty snack. I'm glad he is 3000 miles away in a nice zoo.

Thanks for viewing Scruples. I wouldn't want to get that close in the wild for a headshot of a fellow like him.

Very nicely done. I haven't been to the Detroit Zoo for over 45 years (in LA now)

Thanks for your comment Jeff. If you get back in the area in the future plan a visit. Most all zoos have had a drastic change in their mission in 45 yrs. Many new award winning habitats, however one of the most spectacular, the penguin one, will be down for 9 months while a contractor repairs a shortcut taken in construction.

These photos reflect the most handsome bear I've ever seen. How well these bears have been looked after. You, Detroit, and the three orphaned bears are a lucky bunch

Thanks craig for viewing and commenting. They are huge even for Grizzlies, well proportioned and not overweight. Hard to get a headshot like these in the wild, at least with my equipment, so it's fun to take a close look at well cared for zoo animals.
