I would sure hate to come face to face with this guy. At my age I'm sure he could move a lot faster than I can.

Can I assume this critter does not have a good sense of humor ??
I have lived for many years here in South Florida and I am used to see these creatures often during winter time. In summer I do not see them that often and I do not play golf.
Alligators in the Everglades National Park are used to humans. Do not interfere with their activities and they will not interfere with yours. In the park the rangers warn visitors not to come closer than 15 feet because as wild animals that they are their behaviour is unpredictable. We do not have many alligators attacking people here in Florida but it is wise not to get closer. They are pretty fast!
I remember in once occasion fishing in Flamingo, at the Florida lower tip, that I encounter a crocodile. He was looking at me and I was looking at him. Instead of panicking I used my brain and asked myself what does he want? I backed up a few steps and he crossed a small brook leading to the other side from where he was originally standing. It was then obvious to me that he wanted to cross the brook but was feeling as if I was interrupting what he wanted to do. A simple reasoning solved that issue.
Around April they have their babies and prior to that the eggs are hatching. Both are very dangerous times to be close to a mamma alligator. I have seen a female alligator with her babies once but I kept my distance.
If I have an advise for anyone not familiar with these animals as wildlife animals that they are I would say keep your distance and do not do anything they could interpret as harmful to them.
Very good shot, Rob, a bit scary.
Would not like to stumble on him... Great shot..
A friend and I saw one like this one in a lake about three ft. from the beach. My friend said " look at that he is not afraid of us at all". I said, You don't understand, He is looking at us wondering why we are not afraid of him. He has a different understanding of the food chain from you. RUN AWAY!
Good reason for a zoom lens.

He looks like somebody just peed in his water.

That is one big boy....stay clear.
You don't want to try for a macro shot of his teeth?
Saw a few on courses in Louisiana and Alabama but not yet here in Florida. If I do they can have my Pro V1.

I heard they can run for short bursts up to 30mph! It is the reason that although I live fulltime in a motorhome and have for 12 years...I have never been to Florida...12' alligators and 16' long pythons are not on my bucket list!
Not sure about 30 but I know they can move quickly. One shot and I was gone.

He's a big one, all right. Nice shot.
Thanks. I liked the angle and his eyes. Didn't stay too long.

Nope. There is an unplayable lie rule that applies to predators. No penalty.
