Nikkon 105mm Macro and the TC20 E lll

If you use a Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR and have or wish to have a TC20 E lll, you’ll be interested in this:

The 105 macro is a bit heavy but it balances well and is easy to handle in most field situations. —not so much when a TC20 E lll is added.

When I became involved in a project that looked like it might benefit from the quick extra reach offered by a doubler, I gave the 105/TC20 combination a try. With the exception of a few minuscule TC sharpness issues, the project was successful. Early on, I found that some shots made with the tele-extended 105 would have benefited from using a light tripod —and that no tripod foot was, or is, made for the 105.

After hitting the internet for several hours, I discovered THE JCC TRIPOD MOUNT RING TR1, manufactured as a quality replacement for the Canon original A-2 Tripod Mount Ring.

This ring neatly matches the width and diameter of a smooth area on the TC20 Elll, and with the addition of an ARCA quick release plate it now serves very well to balance and attach to a tripod my Nikkor 105mm macro mated with a TC20 E lll…

You can probably find one on the net for something like $25.00

That's all good & glad it worked out for you but, wouldn't you just put the camera body on the tripod? At least that's what I do with Nikon 105. Anyway thanks for posting this. Tom

Me too, unless the TC 20 is attached and the situation calls for additional support.
