I had CSF leaking through my sinus and into my mouth for 6 months. This required an emergency ventriculo peritoneal shunt. You may or may not require a lumbo peritoneal shunt. My issue was resolved and I pray yours is as well.

That is interesting. I did read up on the latter, but I would think it easier to close a tear, but then we don't know what happened in there. Neither ice packs or warm packs helped, the size remains constant, and the headache persistent. Will be interesting to find what up after surgery.

Thanks for the info.

Best of luck. I tasted CSF for 6 months and believe me it is not a pleasant taste. The headaches were indescribably painful.

for those who know me from my recent Macro posts, also know that I recently had a lumbar fusion.
Things started going south last weekend when I thought my 2 week headache was fading.
Well it wasn't lol.
At this point I am leaking spinal fluid under the skin in my lower back.
The Dr examined and tested a fluid sample from under the skin and found it to be
almost exclusively spinal fluid.
The leak is to large for a blood patch.
So Monday the surgeon is going to remove the hardware and bone grafts in order to find the leak
and repair it.
They will be introducing fluids to keep my brain afloat during the process.
They will then attempt to install the rods and screws again if they are successful.
I can't begin to tell you all how much I am NOT looking forward to this.
I am hoping this is an easy fix, but the surgeon is not hopeful lol.
He is probably the best in the area, has 32 years experience at trauma crash surgeries.
So I do believe I am in the best hands possible.
Needless to say, photographing will be another ways off for me. Perhaps I will catch some
of the nesting season at the Rookery.

Anyone here had a nasty Dura leak ? how did it go ?
Thanks

Meningitis is the closest I have been. I feel for you, I never thought anything hurt that bad. Best to you.

Meningitis is a real threat with a CSF leak. Scary stuff. Glad you pulled through.

Back in 79, I was in an aircraft crash: 2 vertebra broken, right leg broken
in 4 places and tendons and ligaments in that leg torn apart.
My left foot/ankle was the worst injury though. It was a mass of small
exposed smashed bones and mashed meat.

After the crash when I looked at the hideous mess near the end
of my left leg, I thought my foot was irrecoverable and in dread
of the impending amputation.

Well after the operation while laying in the hospital bed, I dared
looking at the end of my left leg. To my amazement there was a
plaster cast with the definite shape of my left foot.

Somehow the surgeon saved what had previously looked like raw hamburger mince.

Shortly after the surgeon paid me a visit and told me I'd probably never walk again.

Since then I've won more games of Squash than I've lost, and I can
walk without a detectable limp. I can even run.

It took some physio to get better... but my point is;
surgeons always give pessimistic prognosis. I don't know if it's
their nature or what.

This may be controversial, but I had THC "therapy" quite soon
after the operation and I'm sure it was a big aid in my recovery.
It may be an idea to talk to the Doc about it.

Warm wishes and get well soon Daniel.

No THC for me, I am not qualified according to Floriduh's standards lol.
But there are other ways :)
Sounds like you had an excellent surgeon. and a drive.
Yes they all are Scotty from star trek lol

I truly do appreciate everyone's prayers, wishes and experiences. Kinda helps me prepare for
this ordeal.
Even though I am feeling a little better this morning, I know it will go downhill as the day goes on, and am hoping
for a quick, easy solution.
I know my surgeon has a grueling schedule, and will even call patients as late as 10pm to answer questions and check on them.
So hes got a good soul, and I am hoping hes had a good cup of coffee before he starts cutting lol

Peace and thanks to you all.

About three years ago they told my son that I had three to five weeks to live. I had the big "C". My son told the Dr's they didn't know my dad. He leaves it in the hands Lord. Im still here and cancer free. We will all keep you in our prayers.

I'm not worried. In a week you'll be back here on Ugly Hedge Hogg. In two weeks after surgery you'll be back pressing the shutter. In a week after that you'll be posting photographs for us to ooh and ahh over.

Let you doctor and surgeon know I have all the faith in the world in your behalf!!

See you soon.

Happy Shooting!!

Thanks to all, I am finally home.
The Golden did not do well with me gone, She is my better half and I hers. :)
She whined and cried and shook next to me, gently. And she is not even mine lol.
The Surgeon had no problems finding the leak in the Dura. It was quite large and another surgeon was on hand to help stem the flow while the other cleared the way.
Seems The Dura was rubbing against the bone graft, causing it to thin and weaken, and then when I sneezed or coughed hard it popped, filling the lumbar space with fluid.
He made up some medical glue with fiber and layered it on to make the wall of the Dura thicker.
The most painful part of the process was laying flat for 48 hours and trying to pee in a bottle every 2 hours lol. Some idiot inflated the folly cath before it was inside the bladder, so I had it removed right away lol.

Will be weeks before I am allowed to twist, bend, walk fast, or anything else. Wearing an abdominal wrap as well.

So this is a great time to weed out my photography collection :)
