Well, I certainly was. I routinely uses that when I save a large panorama as a PNG.

I just created one (that I will post later on) and due to its sheer size opted for maximal compression. Adobe did warn that would take sometime...

It did. It took 14 minutes to save the file and... my CPU was used 100% for that time!

Please note that my PC is no slough. CPU is an i7 3.5, memory is 128 and all the drives (6) as L.2 and SSD.

Final size? 874Mb. Uncompressed it is 882Mb.

So why the hell one has this option? When I used normal saving it took 3 minutes and the CPU was not fully used!!!

By the way I trying PTGUI (a version much more recent than mine - 2013)

So Ron, is your computer a "slough" (a swamp) or a "slouch" (something slow and bent over)?

Just askin'

Wow, so it took 11 extra minutes to save 8 Mb of space!!! Not worth the time as you suggest.

Hi Ron, a number of possibilities come to mind.

1- It's possible that something went terribly wrong. Maybe another program was running that interfered with the compression process. Might try a restart and see how it goes.

2- I'm not familiar with compressing PNG files, are they as compressible as jpegs? Maybe PNG files are as small as they can be already. What format were you saving from?

3- PSCC can use the GPU in your video card. Do you have that feature turned on? Or if you have a much older card it might not be able to handle the load (thus CPU = 100%).

Have you tried saving to a compressed PNG format before, or was this an anomaly? If after rebooting, it still takes forever to save a compressed PNG file, I would suspect that the solution lies with items 2 or 3.

If you figure it out, let us know what you discovered.

Yeah. do not use the 'extra compressed PNG.

There is nothing wrong with the PC.
