Back in 2005 we took a tour with an organization then called Elderhostel of the US Canyonlands. Our tour guide was a teacher of botany. She told us that if we returned to the area again in the near future not to expect nearly as many flowers that we were seeing then. The exceptional snow melt and spring rains had caused an exceptional blooming in the desert. I took the following images with my first DSLR, a Nikon D70.

A really nice set. The Arizona desert surprises people with it's lushness after good winter rains. I think most people equate desert with rolling sand dunes or dry, rocky landscapes with a few bushes. If you want to do the trip again by yourself the State of Arizona posts wildflower reports each spring.

Nice set! Now that I am an "elder" I think that Elderhostel is no longer in existence. They offered unbelievable educational vacations.

Nice work there.

My uncle (in Phoenix) always told me about the beautiful deserts in bloom, but Ii have never been fortunate enough to be out west at the right time to see them.
