Being new to photography and to the mighty Ugly Hedgehog forum (I’m sure there’s a story of how the Ugly Hedgehog’s became to be).

As for me, I had my annual medical physical last fall - and as we were finishing up, the doctor said, “I’m think I’m going to write you a prescription for a camera, because if you don’t get a hobby and get away from work, the next time I see you, I’m going to be writing a prescription for high blood pressure medication”.

I would say that’s when my photography days started. Now after endless hours of practice, some great and not so great advice (along with the YouTube videos), I’m making out what works for me. More importantly, I’m starting to get some gratification for something that starting to make sense.

Oh, as far as my blood pressure – it’s back down to somewhat normal.

120/80! Unbelievable!
I am tickled when I hit anywhere close to that. Tell me to stop eating certain foods. They are my favorites.
Good for you, my friend.

Did you think to write off the cost of the prescribed camera as a medical expense on taxes?

That is very creative. I think a good accountant could properly itemize photography as a medical expense. But in reality the tax return may be audited. I'm assuming that every piece of gear would need to be scaled down in cost so as not to make the items listed as suspicious.

I started photography as a hobby way back in high school. I have had some great moments and not so great moments. In all, I difinitely enjoy my hobby and it has kept by psyche in a happy place. My blood pressure has been normal for many years. The true reward for my work is the "ooos and aahs" that my family and friends provide me with.

Enjoy this craft!

Happy Shooting!
