Well. I have reading about the D500 and really have GAS. Currently have an awesome d7200 and do love it. I am wondering if the are any advantages I would get with the D500. Would I get sharper photos. Would I get better low light photos. Will the high iso photos be better.

Buying photography equipment while under the influence of GAS is usually not a good idea, as it becomes all too tempting to purchase something that you don't really need or won't actually improve your photography.

You will get no better photos from a D500 than you will with your D7200. The D7200 is technically capable of better quality images. The D500 is a sturdier construction than the D7200, built to take more abuse, and it shoots faster than the D7200, up to 10 frames per second. So, if a few fps will enable you to shoot better photos then yes, the D500 will give you better images than the D7200. The reason I say this is I own both cameras and the advantages the D500 have over the D7200 do not included image quality. If you need a outdoor action and wildlife camera, something that will stand up to a rough hike or some less than ideal weather and can shoot up to 10 fps, under the right conditions, then the D500 is a great camera to have. If you already have a D7200 and don't need what the D500 has to offer, don't waste your money on a D500, get yourself a new lens.

Here's the bottom line, if you can afford a D500 and want a D500 and will utilize the features a D500 offers, then go get a D500. If you think a D500 will produce better images or make you a better photographer, it won't, it's just another camera.
I bought a D500 because it's built tough and can take abuse and conditions I didn't want to subject my D7200 to. For general photography, I use my D7200 more than my D500.

The noticeable differences between these two cameras are frame rate; 6 vs 10 and the D500's awesome focus system. IQ may be slightly better in the D7200 due to the higher pixel count; 24mp vs 20mp. Low light performance is similar.

Since you say the D7200 is awesome its not likely holding you back so the D500 would not improve your photography.

As rmorrison116 suggests, you might end up with a two camera solution. My D500 is set for birds with a long lens ready to go. For everyday use, I carry a much more discrete D3400.

The image quality from both cameras will be virtually the same. The D500 has numerous advantages over the D7xxx series cameras. It has Nikon's best autofocus system. The D5, D500, and D850 have a processor dedicated to just the autofocus system. It has the same tough build quality as the D5 and is extensively weather sealed. It has the largest view through the viewfinder I've ever seen in a DX format Nikon - 1.0x as compared to 0.91x for the D7200. The view is as large as the view though my full frame D750. The joystick controller on the back allows one to move the autofocus point(s) quickly. It has an ISO button right behind the shutter release button. Because the D500 has a round viewfinder, you can get different eyepieces for it. I got the Nikon DK-19 eyecup for mine.

I sometimes go to model photo shoots where things move quickly. The D500 is the camera I take because I know it will get the job done in the fast paced photo shoot. The operation of my D7000 and D750 is slow by comparison.

The D7200 is a fine camera, but the D500 does have some advantages, but it doesn't have a built-in flash, if that matters. Look for reviews and comparisons. Never feel guilty about buying something simply because you want it. It's that kind of reasoning that finds me with fifty-seven ukuleles.

What rmorrison116 says rings true. Less than two wks ago I sprang for a D500 and already own a D7200. This camera is a pro level camera. Me, I don't need 10 fps although the autofocus and viewfinder are excellent reasons to own the camera. It doesn't have wireless remote capabilities and there is no cable release in the box. No on-board flash, and they say that upfront, but that's another ancillary device to buy. You're talking what(?) $500.00, depending on what you buy, refurbed or new? I'm going to heed the old adage and return the body and buy the 16-80mm Nikon lens. Save a few hundred. MM

Life is short. If you want a D500, and if means permit; buy it, and enjoy.

Charlienow;
Between the two cameras (D500 and D7200) and a "GAS" attack I would just recommend a couple o TUMS pills. Joking apart, both cameras are excellent being the D7200 capable of producing sharper photos and the D500 faster speed and focusing.

I will request from you, your overall experience with your D7200. I have a D3300 and am possibly considering a move up to a D5600 or the D7200,
Your, thoughts, opinion, suggestion will be appreciated.

New gear never helps me because I'm the same behind the eyes.
