Turtle Back is mainly a kids zoo in metropolitan NJ. I took a short visit to it yesterday. Huge crowd, lots of kids & carriages, hot & humid. Difficult shooting through dirty glass, cages, bars, ... We went anyway.

Here are a few images. Not great, but considering vantage points, lighting and my extreme amateurism, not too bad.

Nicely done Mike!
Turtle Back has come a long way since I used to take my daughter there. I went last year during the week when the kids are in school. Big difference!

My favorite is still the Bronx Zoo, they also have free running black squirrels, which is the only place I’ve ever seen them.
Take care

Thanks, Cookie! I also took my two daughters there 50 years ago. It has changed.

Mark, thank you for awakening old but fond, memories. A long, long time ago in the early 50's there was a riding stable (Smitty's) at the corner of Northfield Ave and Pleasant Valley way that I used to frequent during the summer. The riding trails went along Northfield to the tree line towards Turtle Back and then curved into the woods. I hadn't thought about that for ages and your post caused me to take a Google Street View Tour. My Lord!! I expected growth but mercy!!

Glad my post jogged your fond memories of the area. The changes since the 50’s are definitely mind boggling.

Thanks for stopping bye.

Mark,

Zoo photography is so difficult under any circumstances. You’ve done minor miracles. My favorites are the butterflies and moths, but they are all terrific. I know you also got some great shots of the grands enjoying the day for their parents.

Thanks, Andy. Actually, no shots of that. It was very crowded and lately, in many venues, due to the current protective climate of children, I seldom shoot people, particularly kids. I miss doing that.

Do they still use the elephant key to unlock the sound boxes that that describes what you are viewing. Last time I was there with my 3 sons was back in the mid 70's.

Great shots Mark - brings back memories of taking the kids there many years ago, as well as the inevitable school trips.
