Good Weather for Ducks--Birds Stay Inside

A bird photo with no birds, but I liked the mood and composition. I put it up on the Photo Gallery, to no responses. Hmmm. maybe I should wait for a sunset. 😃 (I understand that tastes differ, and I'm not upset at no response there, even though I was hoping to b, uh, "inspirational." However, I would like to hear from folks here, who are generally more open and frank.)

It is always disappointing to get no or very few responses. I can't respond to every great photo I see. I did not see this one.

It's one of those photos that makes me feel things. Comfort, that it will once again rain here, maybe not til November? Jealousy, that you have rain. Wishing that I could just stand out in it and cool off. Wondering if this rain made you happy or if you have had enough rain and are sick of it?
I like the effect of the long drops. Thanks for reposting.

I miss hearing rain roof at night.

Rain in the "right" intensities is wonderful. I enjoyed watching this cloudburst, from inside. Also, the smell enlivens everything. I'm sorry that your area is missing it. Here, on the shore of Lake Michigan in Indiana, we got walloped in Spring and Early Summer, but it's been normal since then. Still, the Lake has been rising for several years, and is tearing away shore.

What's the situation by you? (See, we talk about rain, it comes around to hear what we're saying.)

Typical California--little or no rain from May to November. This year we were swamped in the winter. I do miss that great smell of fresh rain. And the pounding drops.

I like it, I've been trying to do something similar for a while now (but I haven't got such not a view out front).
Maybe I'd try and get a focal point on the rain a little further away and blur the really big nearby ones. But I've got to get some first to compare.

I like this photo very much. I’m surprised that you didn’t get a better response. It makes me glad that I’m indoors and dry. Good eye.

It is difficult to come up with a response when the shot says it all.

It did remind me of our trip in the mountains yesterday. Approaching the mountain tops under the sunshine until the road got "curvy". Clouds opened up in torrential sheets. When we approached our destination on the other side of the mountain, the sun was out and everything was clean.

PS., It was difficult to get any shot through windshield during rain. Visibility down to less than ten feet at times.

Great mood shot.

Yeah, I missed it, too. I like it--it reminds me of the kind of photos my brother used to make.

I also missed this photo, Bob. I really like it...I like how you captured the big rain drops so you can almost feel how hard it's raining. I also like where you located the bird house. It makes me think that the walkway not only leads to your house, but also theirs. Nice to share your yard with the wildlife. I'm sure they are appreciative of that nice house where they can stay dry! Great shot.

When I first saw this shot I didn't like it that much. But I went back for more views and found it to be one of those shots that looks better the more you see it. I like it.

I appreciate all the comments. Trick: to get the raindrops, I shot out a window (camera pressed to the glass) where the gutter was overflowing. That way I got the feel of the downpour that the camera normally would have a hard time "catching." Should work under an umbrella tilted forward. May even try it! 😊

I like it, Bob. The downpour is refreshing and the birds have sense enough to come in out of the rain. The rain may be a bit heavier than we like but the air is so clean and crisp afterwards. Thanks for posting this.

I too didn't see it the first time around. I love your rain, I've tried to use a 3rd party filter or brush a couple times on a scene, to achieve a rain effect, but nothing is as good as the real thing, as your image proves. I like your idea of shooting through the window or using an umbrella tilted forward. Thanks for the idea. Bev

Nicely done. I would have never have thought about the water off the roof thing. If our monsoon season ever develops here in SE Arizona I'm going to try it.
