Snobs and deniers! You are the same folks who say there is no climate change and swear daily random shootings are acceptable in America.

Nobody has ever said that daily random shootings are acceptable in America. In fact daily random shootings are not happening daily in America. Most people also accept that there IS climate change. The difference of opinion is whether or not this warming trend is caused by the earth's inhabitants or is nothing more than the constant warming/cooling trends of the earth itself.

So far that is three strikes against your opinion and statements.

I don't mean to be disrespectful nor do I want this post to go to The Attic. There is no reason for it to go there. But you are simply wrong on all counts.

Show me the money - in this case the photos. I don't spend any time in Coffee Shops, and live in the country. We can pick alternate subjects. Mano a mano. Not snobbery just fact - see if your phone can match my Nikons. As to your other issues - they are irrelevant in this conversation.

Sticking with Nikon, you have a choice of D7200 or D7500. The D500 has been discontinued. There's nothing wrong with buying a newer, better camera. We're not in this solely for simple picture-taking. It should be fun, too. A new camera will energize your enthusiasm.

You keep saying that the D500 is discontinued. You've said that in other threads also. That was a particular sports and wildlife kit that was discontinued. I just went on Nikon's discontinued camera list. The D500 is not on the list.

Spending more money on a new camera will not make you a better photographer. I have a D3400 also. If I bought a D850 I would still have the same skills as I have now. The D3400 has the same processor and sensor as the D7200 and is capable in producing the same excellent images. Concentrate on a fixed aperture 2.8 zoom to complement your 2 primes. I have a 28-75 and 17-50 both f2.8 fixed. You will be pleased with your images even in low light.

A new camera really helped improve my skills. Of course the camera is only a tool, some tools work better than others. I don’t know how many more times we are going have read this logic. This guy has thought about it and has come to the conclusion that he wants a new camera. This is not a major crime. I just bought a new camera and my photography has really improved with it. Stop being such a buzz kill.

Matt Granger has an interesting 12 minute video on the subject.

Pay your money, take your choice. Looks like a 7200,7500 or 500 depending on your budget. It's usually best to get the best you can afford or to wait until you can afford the best. But then again, if you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there.

Check the reviews of a Huawei P30 Pro's zoom quality and night mode, you will be surprised.
I would say, a $1000 smartphone worth about $2000 worth of Dslr/Mirrorless gears.
If you don't mind to carrying and switching lens, a tripod and an external flash all the time, use what you are having. Otherwise, learn to shoot raw and post processing will yield more keepers.

I have not found using a better camera makes me a better photographer. It just makes some things easier to do. There is one exception, working with in light.

In escalating order it seems to be 5600, 7200, 7500, 500 are the options.

D500 was not discontinued and is still on their home page etc.
It was one of the body/lens kits that was discontinued.

And even that was a very outdated post.

It has been rumored that there will not be an upgrade to the D500, but an equivalent Z will be produced.

Hey there fellow UHHers!
I am shooting a Nikon D3400 DX right now. It is fine, but I feel like there may be something more to be done now with another DX upgrade to help me be a better photographer. I understand some of them have better sensors, more control over some features.

Right now I am mainly taking photos of events at my church and mostly following the progress of houses being rebuilt from damage c/o Hurricane Harvey in the Dickinson, TX area.

Until I decide if I am going to concentrate on landscape, birds and animals, insects and flowers or whatever, the lenses I have are enough (so I believe): 18-55 mm and 70-300 mm kits lenses, 35 mm DX f/1.8, 50 mm FF f/1.8 and an 18-140 mm DX f/3.5-5.5. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

A new camera will not make you a better photographer but it might give you more creative license.

The camera you have is capable of very good IQ.

I suggest you give some thought to the art of composition. Take a little time and study images you like and decide what you like and practice getting that. Maybe read some info on composition and posing and portraiture. Take a class. Join a club. Find a friend to shoot with.

Those are my suggestions.

Agreed in part about the camera models.

But if you don’t already have a smartphone, get one. Over two million apps are available to do almost anything you need to do. They are handier than Swiss Army Knives — until you need one of those. But yes, for many reasons, you need a computer and a real tool kit.
