Thanks to everyone for their replies. Some were quite humorous. I have come to realize that most of UHH members are helpful, intelligent people. I feel rather stupid for thinking that the sd card in question came with my camera...it did not.
Anyway I will continue to read UHH daily as I have learned a lot through the years and had some fun in the process. Keep up the good work Hoggers!
P.S. I will keep you posted if I encounter any more "ghosts" in my machine.
I take it the mystery fellow in the picture was not Sting.
The subject isn't human. It's an extraterrestrial space creature mimicking a human form.
If not in the Nikon plant, did it look like a camera store? Perhaps B&H bought it from a defunct camera store and a customer insisted on checking if it worked before considering it. Not exactly open box if not returned after leaving store.
When I go in the local shop and want to see a camera, they hand it to me with a lens and card so I can take a shot or two. If I buy it, I get a card in a sealed package. Did they leave the store's demo card in your camera when they sold it?
Was it a picture of Rod Serling?
Did the "volunteer" photo appear in numerical or alphabetical order among it's neighbors. My GUESS is that there was a photo left on a used card which, when downloaded from card to computer, was put into alpha/numeric order by the computer's software. There may be other photos like that lurking on the card. I suggest (for no good reason) an in camera reformat of the card. OOPS I see that you have already reformatted.
Have a good laugh about it and move on.

I bought it from B and H photo so I know they are a reputable outfit. I can't imagine getting a used camera that was advertised as new. It looked brand new.
CALL THEM, THEY HAVE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
This sure did get a lot of attention

A really strange thing happened to me the other day. I was out shooting with my Nikon D-7200. I bought it a couple of months ago, brand new. When I took out the sd card to download to my computer an image of a total stranger was among the shots I had on the card. The thing is no one but me has ever used this camera but me. Could someone have hacked my camera since it does have wifi? Of course the wifi is not turned on while shooting. Could the seller have used an sd card that had been used? Anyway I was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone on this forum before.

I don't shoot Nikon. This is a strange occurrence but we can deduce how this has happened. First off, you could be taking photographs in you sleep only to discover them later on. I doubt it. You could have been captured by aliens. Check to see if there are any pictures of you in the woods under a bright light. LOL
Look at the EXIF data. This may tell you something. Look at the background if any at the strange photographs. They may give a clue where they were taken and possibly by whom. I seriously doubt your camera was hacked. Otherwise you would have a photo of your neighbor's dog, REX peeing by your rose bush or your nephew Timmy running around the living room in his skivvies.
None of these seem likely.
What probably happened is that the memory card was not completely formatted. This used card had an image there waiting to be viewed and pondered over. You could go back, show the card to the merchant and hope they will apologize and give you a replacement card, free of charge.
On the other hand, you could be suffering the beginnings of memory loss and ...and... I forgot what I was going to write. Darn!
Happy Shooting!
DID YOU EVER STOP TO THINK----
AND FORGET TO START AGAIN?
Is it possible that Nikon fires a test shot before releasing the camera into retail?
