Do not grieve Linda's absence, since, in the world of photography forums, UHH is like the Hotel California:

"You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

Linda, I hope you find great vantage points and perfect exposures.

I also didn't anticipate the curiosity that would be generated by my not providing a "why." I apologize for that. It's a mix of UHH burnout (80,000 comments in 6+ years), health, and frustrations over how much of this site is devoted to incivility and other bad behavior, as well as how much is simply snapshot sharing. Only a tiny percent of active users here are interested in thoughtful discussion or teaching.

All the best to everyone!

Just want to say thank you for the guidance I have received in my quest to improve. Still have a ways to go and am sorry to hear you won’t be part of it.
I sometimes find myself stepping away from the craziness of the net just so I can get my sanity back. I hope you find your inner peace again.

Not just UHH- Sorta sums up what the decline in critical thinking skills has done to our country.

I'm sorry Linda is leaving UHH. I can see not wanting to have daily duties as a group leader or moderator. I'd never be that generous to take on an unpaid job like that. We've lost others in the past who took on that responsibility. Don't know why she can't stay as just another member though. Maybe my expectations are not as high as hers. I fully expect most of my posts to be ignored and not teach anyone anything. I welcome the incivility. It reminds me that I'm still alive.

Linda - thank you for all you added to our lives. I agree with your concerns about the "quality" of the UHH experience. Fly safe...wherever your adventures take you.

I'm quite new, but always appreciated all your posts. You were always helpful and with great manners.

Not having you around will be a great loss for the forum.

Wish you the better, and hope you find some time to participate (although less) in the future :)

Linda, I am so sorry to see you leave. I have seen your photography improve tremendously and I've been impressed with your willingness to share your knowledge and time.

A few days from now will mark the day I joined UHH 6 years ago. I have seen it roller coaster with good and bad situations. I've seen good members leave because of members that felt they needed to belittle others and cause conflict.

Several times I have considered dropping UHH and joining other forums but there are some great people here and I have learned some things along the way. I have even gained a best friend. I don't always have time to share photos or make comments but I always try to read as many posts as I can.

I maintain hope that UHH will someday become the forum that is a great place to learn and place free of trolls and troublemakers. It's true that we all have opinions and not everyone will always agree but it would certainly be nice to see the pettiness disappear.

Linda, I wish you the very best and hope that this isn't a true "goodbye" but maybe a "see you some time in the future".

Regards,
Dodie

Apparently linda from Maine is gone...

Here is her notice.

I too share many of the sentiments expressed by others regarding Linda's tremendous contributions to this site and the anticipated void her departure (hopefully temporary) will leave. I have been a member for only a year or so but that has been more than sufficient time for me to appreciate her willingness to pitch in and help others in a open, congenial and non-judgemental way. Some here could certainly try better to emulate her in this regard. I hope that after some reflection, rest and relaxation, she will miss many aspsects of this forum and return, regardless, all the best Linda, you are already missed.

Yes to this. Civility has seemingly been replaced by name-calling and insult on many threads. There is a reason why so many amateurs contribute a couple of posts, then feel driven off by insults and repeated "RTFM!" barbs.

Shortly after I joined here, someone asked how a particular combination of body+lens worked together; since I had used that very combination at the county fair that very evening, I posted a couple of photos. I didn't understand about the "(store original)" checkmark, so my effort was wasted, but I was well-meaning. Of course, another new member criticized me for posting "snap shots" - and within a few hours several established members came to my defense ... and I'm still here.

Good on you....

There are many who have the combination of sincere, honest, and well-informed. The volume of those who don't qualify on any of the above scores sometimes drowns out the voices of those who qualify.
