This does not apply if you live on the Gulf Coast.. FLA AL MS and probably Texas. Wal Mart and Best Buy are not exactly camera stores. I don’t believe there is a full service camera store in any of these states. And throw in Tennessee as well.

District Camera is family-owned. I am focused on the Burke store. They just opened a third store so they must be doing something right.

Definitely need to support local stores if you still have them. If you don't, you won't.

I have been to the store and didn't find them particularly helpful.
I attempted to trade eq. in for a new lens. They didn't look at my trade, instead they simply looked at the list went to a book and gave me a very low price.
They have their customers however since there is a lot of used lenses and cameras on display at very high prices. They have a lot of accessories on display.

While I live prox. 10 miles from them I do not shop with them.

These experiences were over a year ago.
I have been to the store and didn't find them part... (show quote)

Having worked in retail camera stores, I would see many unsophisticated people expect to get retail or higher price for their equipment. Rule of thumb was sell used gear at half retail or higher but pay no more then quarter retail .

Unless you live near any of these stores it's not worth the find out how good they are. There are plenty of known good stores.

I have been to ACE recently for the first time. Very large selection especially camera bags. They matched B&H price on an item I bought. District Camera in Burke and Arlington have nice selection. I have been disappointed though in their follow through and classes.

Though I prefer BandH for my camera needs, a friend asked me to check out the following camera dealers. What better place then here? Has anyone had any experience or knowledge of these stores: Ace Photo, Ashburn, VA, McClanahan Photo, Warrenton, VA, or Tri State Camera, Brooklyn, NY? Thanks for any help you can give.

I have had very good luck with KEH Camera, (Atlanta, GA) And I've also Had very good luck with Adorama, (New York, NY)

No shit? All you need is a local camera store. Which we haven't had for 20 years. I'd have to drive an hour to pick up a camera.

If you buy a new camera once every few years, that one hour drive to the store doesn't sound so bad. Maybe visit an interesting site or carnival along the way to make the trip more worthwhile!

I have made a great number of purchases through Amazon.com. I have had to return some items, and had immediate response and a replacement item even before they had my return.

I would love to have a store like Cameta's or Robert's near to me. I probably have saved money by NOT having a store nearby. So far, I have had excellent service (mail order) from both Cameta and Robert's.

My local in Raleigh area is Southeaster Camera, Atlantic Ave.

No pers advantage to my commercial, just some nice folks who know a lot abt cameras, fair and honest, auth dealers for maj nameplates.

I’ll also give a big two thumbs up to both Ace and District. The front element came off of my Nikon 18-200 and Ace fixed it for $20. Great selection, knowledgeable and friendly.

Don't know where you live but Roberts Camera in Indianapolis is excellent, both new and used.

I bought used from Roberts and they handled a problem professionally and quickly.

Like computers, I try to 'upgrade' cameras at most every four years

I hope you know how to use the Search Feature on UHH. I have my favorites and Abe's isn't one of them

I wish there was a brick and mortar store other than Houston Camera Exchange in the southern part of the Houston area. I am limited to driving short distances, so I use Adorama and B&H, sometimes Amazon.
