Ive done a Portrait shoot for someone .
Was not paid and was a favour .

The Images came out quite strong and very contrasty.
Not flattering at all .. in fact a bit on the Not nice at all side .

So I did some minor adjustments in PS to soften the face etc .

She now insists on having the originals not adjusted ..
But as I said the Originals are quit bad which show many of her ' Imperfections '

I really dont want to show her the originals .

Any thoughts ?
Anyone been in this position before ?

Cheers

Do what you think is right. If it were me i would only give her the corrected image. Why? Two parts of an image you deliver. The first part is out of camera and second is post processed. Those combined makes the deliverable image.

If you let her know that you are not pleased, Would she agree to a re-shoot?

We don't really know what relationship this person has to you... as you have agreed to not getting paid for the portrait shoot, I think one can rule out random stranger off the street.

I would show her the originals and let her decide. Some people would rather keep their imperfections and feel they don't need to be "fixed". If she agrees the originals aren't satisfactory, a reshoot might be in order in you feel you could do better.

I'd show her the fixed ones, and another set of "almost" fixed.
She knows what she looks like.
But would also ask if she'd like a reshoot with perhaps softer light.

Be honest about it and just tell her that you are a poor photographer.

Do you know what you did wrong ? If so can you put it right with a re shoot? She paid nothing so no contract and you have the copyright . Under no circumstances let her have copies of the photos or you will be down the pan on the internet .

"She knows what she looks like."
She knows what she THINKS she looks like, or , she THINKS she knows what she looks like.
None, or very few, of us look like the way others see us.

Never show images until they are finished. As far as the subject/client is concerned those are the originals.

I would never give out the original if you are not happy with it. People that see it will think it is your best work and if you are ever going to get paid for your work you will have to create extraordinary work for a long time to get people to hire you.
I once went to a body shop to have them do a quick fix on a car. They would not do it unless the job was their best. Their reputation and your reputation depends on what people see.

I find that for people who do not understand what we do, telling them that in the film days, and I even cite the example of Ansel Adams, we did all kinds of post camera work in the darkroom - dodging and all kinds of changes. People genuinely are surprised to hear this, and that makes what we do a little bit more understandable.
Not sure this will work with your friend, but worth a try?

You did not charge, she already knows you are NOT a professional. However, you have a right to your shots, since you did not charge you can inform her you are still learning and you would be glad to show her all of the originals on YOUR computer, but you retain all rights to all photo's and prefer not to release any shot you do not feel are good. If she wants any of them it is your right to politely refuse on the basis that you are learning a skill and prefer not to . Again, she did not pay, so she has no rights at all.
In the future, even if your not charging, it may be CONTRACT time where you spell out the particular's ahead of time.
Count this event as a learning situation. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on,,,, well, you know.

Fortunately, my exposure techniques render the originals useless. In addition, I shoot exclusively using RAW format. That said, I'd be reluctant to share originals of portraits, especially.

Only show your best work. If you need to reshoot then tell her so.
