I just got my Movo Bean; it is like an upside down U; designed to go over a car door.
I'd like to get some suggestions about filling it ... besides the usual rice or beans.
It will be supporting a fairly heavy lens and I'd like the bag to be on the light side
if possible. Does anyone have an idea for filling; something not normally thought of?
I guess what I want is lead shot stability with the weight of rice :-)
How about styrofoam?
Or split peas?
Air soft ammo/BBs?
Lentils?
Styrofoam ... like the "Popcorn". Interesting.
Or even unpopped popcorn.
I went with lead shot. Not necessarily to support the camera, but to add mass to the camera. The problem, as I can imagine, with anything organic is moisture absorption. Anything other than organic is probably going to be costly. I'd suggest Bal-Tech, as they produce aluminum and titanium balls, but at a cost.

For stability it should have some weight. At craft stores they have these styro-beads (not foam, but like little plastic pellets) or the buckwheat hulls that are used in microwave heated masks. IF possible use the heavier beads or pellets in the parts that hang down over the window. (depends on how it is constructed.)

Just the kind of suggestion I'm looking for. I looked and it will go onto the 'Possible" list. the
drawback is cost - I'm guessing about $30-$60 ( can't judge how big the jars are). If necessary, the money won't break me. Do you or someone you know use this?
I use the same sunflower seeds I feed to the birds. Twice a year I dump them in a feeder and put fresh ones in. This is with a D4s on an 800mm. I can drive slowly with my arm laying across the lens. When stopped I can let go completely. The bag is from LensCoat and seems to be moisture proof. I have been using it since January 2016.

You've just answered a question I was thinking of asking - mixing filler. But your comment gave me the idea to place the heavier stuff in plastic bags before stuffing them in to the bean bag.

Yes, my grandsons are into it. It's as big as the paintball days. Cost was my concern as well, but it wouldn't be affected by moisture. If you're frugal, like me, bulk prices or sales can be found. Google and Ebay.
I hit a lot of thrift and discount stores too. Pick up any opened and/or damaged packages I find to help them out. For very good prices, but it might take you a while to find enough. Lol.

You could use this product designed for rock tumbling. Available from Amazon.

That was going to be my next suggestion. Been collecting agates since I was a kid. Finally invested in some decent tumblers and equipment. No expert, by any means, just thought it might work.

I have a small 4” tumbler and drive that does small stones ok, but I think someday I will want to build a large box tumbler(16 sides) and get serious about it. The pellets work well to keep scratches down on the final polish.
For the OP, they are waterproof, compact nicely and do have some weight to them.
