This dog is well exercised with her horse-herding activities. After a morning of trying to keep up with my horse and the other dog, she spends many hours sleeping. It sounds like you understand the pattern. So, does Tara sleep well, too?
She sleeps well unless a possum, coon or other critter comes in the yard. Just a couple of days ago I had to put her inside the family room and lock the doggie door at midnight. Then an hour later the wife sent me down to sleep in the lounge chair because she was barking to get out after that critter (it was a possum(s) using the fences as an expressway around the block).
Tara is a mix, her Mom was miniature dachshund/chihuahua mix, Daddy an Irish Shorty type Jack Russell and little Miss Tara is a Daddy's girl in both appearance and hunting behavior.
I made the mistake of letting my wife take her to get her first license at 6 months. I looked at the papers later and her name was "Terror". I asked "Why, I call her Tara?" The answer was "They wouldn't put "Little Holy Terror" on the license." Well she did like chewing stereo wires and chasing empty water bottles around the house on our tile floors.
I guess it was better than the other name my wife called her when she was trying to get the 5 cats to play with her. When they would run up the stairs to get away from her Debra called her Al Qaeda because to the cats she was a Terrorist. We got her at 9 weeks and 2 lbs. She had 4 siblings she was used to playing with. She wanted those cats to PLAY! They wanted to take naps, they ended up doing that on top of the book shelves. The 4th day we had her she figured out how to climb the stairs so that refuge for napping only lasted 3 1/2 days for the cats.

Tara is a beautiful little dog and the Jack Russell must be predominant in her genetic makeup. Terrier is easily converted to "Terror," so Tara is a natural progression in names and probably very fitting.
The Jack Russells I've known have been wonderful hunters, terrorizing rodents whenever they can. Watching them clear a barn of rats is amazing. While my dogs are natural herders, the JRs are natural hunters.
Thanks for forwarding a photo of your wonderful little dog.

She hunts and kills field mice, tree rats, lizards, young possums in the back yard. The closest she has come to a squirrel is a few tall hairs. But she guards my bird feeders and our squirrels are really alert and in great shape thanks to Tara.
When still less than half grown she chased a coon bigger than her into the swimming pool and wouldn't let it out. It was close to drowning when I went out and picked her up long enough for the coon to get out and over the fence. My wife's Shin Zhu "Toby" was just sitting on the side of the pool watching with an occasional bark. I don't know who he was cheering for. Same thing when she got a full grown possum which had curled up and was playing dead. She would pick it up and shake it then let go so it bounced off the side of the house or the fence. Toby watched, it was better than TV in the family room with me. The BONK of the possum bouncing off the house got our attention and I went out to check. I used a push broom to move the possum under the gate to the front yard and safety. Tara watched it for 10 minutes until it got up the nerve to uncurl and leave.
Both are terrific shots - had a pembroke corgi as our first dog - she really had a born to rule attitude!

The morning light backlit my Corgi, Lexi, as she enjoyed the sunny warmth on the back deck, and the house acted as a very large reflector. No fill flash was needed. The catchlights clearly reflect the windows of the house and may or may not be appealing.
I simplified the background with a layer mask in the second shot.
Any suggestions?
lexi is so pretty, vicki, and the portraits are simply beautiful....I like what you did to the background
in the second shot.
Very tough choice, better smile in #1, but better portrait in #2. B O T H are wonderful ❤💖💗

Thanks for taking time to look at and comment on these shots. One acquaintance, the owner of a kennel, told me she thought Corgis are little Nazis. I haven't found that to be the case, however ours have all been in charge. The females definitely dominated the males when we had one of each.
