No, they will not, as a rule. Maybe there are certain EF-S lenses that will mount on full-frame bodies, and maybe you can FORCE the lens onto the body, but it's not advisable to do that.

A semi-pro photographer friend of mine had a full frame Canon 5D MKiv and then bought an APS-C Canon 7D MKii. After 2 years I questioned him on which camera he uses the most. He told me that he used his APS-C camera more than 95% of the time versus his full frame camera. He has since got rid of both cameras and went macro 4/3rds.

Why would you even suggest that the OP could/should try EF-S lenses on a full-frame body?

Never suggested that - just simply stated that it can be done.

What does "can be done" mean to you? I'd love to know what EF-S lenses will mount on a full-frame body correctly and function without doing harm to the body?
Do you know something that Canon doesn't?

i'm a sony man, I have 3 dx and 1 fx. camera just because. I have 2 dx lenses and about 10 fx lenses. tha dx are a 50mm and a 16-50mm. 85% of my shots are dx, 10%fx ,and 5% medium format. decide if you want to go whole hog fx or just want one fx body.and a bunch of fx lenses. the people secure in their decision to upgrade won't seek our imput, since you are asking I say wait until you see he need based on your own experience.

Hi, I'm questioning if I should sell my Canon 80d for a used 6d full frame. I'm perfectly happy with the 80d and the crop sensor and I also don't feel like it's limiting me yet in my photography. Just considering it because of most of the things I read when it comes to Focal lengths seem to always be in regards to full frame cameras. For example this lens and Focal length is best for portraits or this Focal length for landscapes. I'm well aware I can use a smaller length to compensate for the 1.6 crop to to equal a suggested length, but just feel like the availability isn't there and I'm beginning to look at higher end lenses "L" lenses and feel like they'd be best suited with a full frame. Photography is definitely something I'm going to continue to do and may quite possibly pursue as a career in the future. Right now mostly take landscapes and street photography, but would like to begin to dabble and learn some portraiture. Selling my 80d and buying a used 6d with a low shutter count would basically be an even trade for me. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

I own two Canon bodies so that if I'm shooting some important event, such as a wedding, I will always have a backup. I mount lenses of different focal lengths as well. I have a 70D crop and a 6D Mark II full frame. I really don't feel that one is better than the other. Some of my lenses fit only the crop and some fit both. If I was you, I wouldn't buy the FF unless you can really see a need. Why not wait until the 80D becomes problematic or you really have to have something new.

According to Canon, EF lenses can be used on both Full Frame and APS-C camera bodies. An EF-S lens can only be used on an APS-C body. Placing, or attempting to place, an EF-S lens on a Full Frame body will damage the mirror, making it unusable.

The mount on an EF lens has a RED dot, and a WHITE dot, to align the lens to the corresponding dot on the camera body when mounting. EF-S camera lenses have only a WHITE dot

The lens mount on Full Frame bodies have both a RED dot and a WHITE dot, which are used to align a lens when mounting. The lens mount on an APS-C body has only a WHITE dot.

Other way around. My Canon APS-C body has red and white dots. Look at an front image of a 5D without a lens, it only has a red dot.

My APS-C LENS only has a white dot.
My 50mm EF only has a red dot.

Keep your crop sensor and buy a full frame. That's what I did. Then choose the camera which is most appropriate for the shot that you're going to do.

Here's a wild idea; get a Canon M50 APS-C MILC and get a Viltrox EF-EOS M2 adapter to mount your EF lenses. The cool thing about the adapter is it's got a 0.71X magnification factor so it turns the APS-C M50 into a virtual full frame. Pretty cool.
I know this works because I have an M50 and the 0.71X adapter.

Buy full-frame lenses before changing your camera body, not after.

Mr. CHG CANON, your response intrests me. I have a Canon T5 and have considered buying one or two L lenses for this body. I've had the camera 3 years and I'm comfortable with it. The crop sensor thing doesn't bother me.
Currently I'm using 4 lenses: EF-S 17-85mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM, EF 70-300 1:4-5.6 IS USM. EF 50mm 1:1.8 STM, and EF-S 10-22mm 1:3.5-4.5 USM.
The question is: would an EF 24-105 f/4L IS II USM (maybe a refurb from Canon) be an improvement? How about an EF 70-300 f/4-5.6L USM? The improvement I'd like to see is in the area of clarity and/or sharpness. I might upgrade to a full-frame body in the future but really don't see the advantage for what I'm doing. Not a professional photographer by any means, but I wish the images were more professional looking.

Thanks, Dan

Please re-read my earlier posts.

I’ll try this one more time.

I own a variety of cameras, in the Canon family are:
5D sr (FF)
RP (FF)
SL3 (Crop Sensor)
SL1 (Crop Sensor - converted ti IR)

My main lens for the SL3 is a Tammy 18-400 (EF-S). I also have a Canon EF-S 10-22 for the SL3. Earlier discussions on this topic, there were split opinions regarding mounting EF-S lens on FF bodies, so I decided to see what would work on the two FF bodies. I mounted the EF-S 10-22 to both the 5D and RP, and they BOTH automatically switched to AR 1.6, and fired away. I then mounted the Tammy to each FF, checked AR, and had to manually select the 1.6 AR, then fired away.

Again, I DO NOT shoot anything but EF lens on the two FF bodies.

I hope this clears any lingering doubt on this topic.

Btw, I previously owned a Canon 5DII/III and IV. Canon EF lens WOULD NOT mount to those bodies, though third party lens would.

You are correct (I should have done a better job of proof reading my comment before posting it)..
The lens mount on APS-C camera body has both a RED dot and a WHITE dot. The APS-C lenses have only a WHITE dot. EF lenses have only a RED dot, as do the lens mounts on Full Frame camera bodies. EF lenses are not to be used on APS-C camera bodies.
