Used vs. Grey Market ?

So what's the difference between going to EBay and buying a $3000.00 used camera ( with no useful warranty ) and going to EBay and buying the same $3000.00 Brand New grey market camera ( with no useful warranty ) ?
Any real practical difference ?
Thanks !
If Nikon, big difference. Anyway, there is used and there are used copies of current models for sale on eBay and from other sources. Virtually anything I buy on eBay is really used and not a current model, usually vintage. I've bought lots of vintage film lenses for less than $150. Some for under $40. I don't expect a warranty and none of these items have ever gone bad on me.

Thanks !
You have spent a boat load of cash on that machine. You have gotten familiar with it. You love it more than your favorite pair of sneakers.
Then the worst happens. It falls off the table. You grab it in time before it puts a dent in the carpeting. Great Save. Not really. You grabbed it by the flash and snapped off the hotshoe.
No worries. You try to have it repaired. It won't be. All because you bought it as a grey market. There's nothing that a little crazy glue and duct tape can't fix. Too bad. Your flash will work sometimes.
Yes you save money but in the long run you will shell out more for a repair. Go with a camera that isn't grey market. It costs more because of a warranty. The manufacturer will fix it when in warranty. They know it will break. Most things break because of built in obsolescence. But, why gamble on not breaking your camera. The only way to avoid not breaking your camera is to keep it wrapped up and safe still in the box and in a closed safe. Now that doesn't make much sense to me.
Buy the camera you want from a reputable retailer. Walk out of the store confidently with plans how you are going to use your new camera.

I'm interested in getting a Sony A9 but maybe I'm being penny wise and pound foolish. Maybe I should just spring for the other 500 bucks and get a new one.
Thanks for all the responses. I guess I'll just sit and think about it for a few days and look closely at the state for the piggy bank.
Thanks again !
That little piggy will squeal loudly when you realize a mistake has been made. I'm not big on gambling so I don't mind spending the least amount for something hanging from my neck. You can buy a manufacturer refurbished model and save money but you still have a workable (usable) warranty. You can buy a separate warranty from third party companies as well. Also, put your new camera on your home owner's policy under a rider. Even if you own an apartment, you need and will have Peace Of Mind!

Of course the Ebay camera could also be a used grey market camera as well.
So you risk with some brands no service either way.
One is used an the other New. Same factory as the one from the USA.
Also there is a Mack warranty. It is a policy that you can buy for that lens or body. I had a Mack warranty with a D300 I got from KEH. The camera went back twice for repair and never cost a dime.

Was it a "for USA" camera? I thought Nikon parts are hard to get for people who repair "questionable" Nikon cameras.
No It was a USA D300 from KEH but was a lemon from Nikon. Nikon finally took the camera back and replaced it with a D300s with 750 clicks- no charge. I had the Mack warranty on the camera. That warranty will be honored by KEH, maybe Nikon and Midwest Camera Repair.
So you had 2 out of 3 cameras fail, I hope I don't own any of those models

I had 2 out of 2 Canon Rebels fail in less than a year .... which is when I switched back to Pentax.
I agree with burkphoto. I've done a lot of business with KEH and they're very reliable. I've also business with Adorama. They too are go good outfit to work with.

Camera #2 is a D850. Purchased August 2018. 0 shutter clicks. Problem developed November 2018.
Camera #3 is a D500. Purchased February 2019. 45 shutter clicks. Problem developed May 2019.
I think lots of folks have these.

I didn't know that, thanks.
Also, B&H, Adorama, Etc., sell grey market items with their own in-store warranty.

And I've had three of them that never had a problem.
