Hello fellow Hoggers. I am spending a few days in Rockport Maine October 13-15. If the foliage is still up, any suggestions of places to shoot. Water views also, as Im concerned Im going to run into a lot of private property B&B's or hotels that don't want you shooting on their property. (Understandable). I don't want to waste my limited time driving around aimlessly, since Ive never been up there before. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance for any replies. Andy

Go down to the Rockport Marine Park for waterfront scenes, view of the bay, boats, statue of Andre the seal, etc.

While you're in the area, if you have the time, you should also check out Camden and Rockland and the Owls Head lighthouse

Edit: I'm sure Linda from Maine can give you more suggestions!

I have been there with several friends in our photo club staying there a few days in July 2008, it was a very nice place to spend the Summer. I could not remember the name of those places we visited. I only can remember the name of the hotel, it's called Seaward plus the restaurant, the Sea Garden. beautiful and peaceful place right in front of the ocean. There were lots of beautiful private vacation house around, most of the time, there were no problem driving through, just pay attention to the signs around.
The sea port (forgot the name) were the place for photography, plus the twin light-house. we missed the boarding time of the boat that will bring us to the light-house. The food in the restaurant around the town of the sea port were very good. We walked rocky beach and met some very nice local residents. It had been 11 years on my memory. You won't disappointed.
Here are few pictures, not that good, taken with a bridge camera.

The WW&F Railroad is about 45 minutes south of there. Maine "two-foot" railroads are unique, and they are the most authentic one still in existence.

Owls Head and Rockland Harbor Breakwater Light are about a half hour south of Rockport.
The breakwater light may be best visited at low tide as it is out on a long breakwater.

I think you are describing Rockport Massachusetts, not Rockport Maine!?

No problem. I also got the two Rockports mixed up in a conversation once. They're both nice places to visit.

In addition to the waterfront park, next to the Opera House is the Mary Lea Park, which has nice views of the Rockport harbor from a higher vantage point.

Also close by is the Camden Hills State Park, which has commanding views of Penobscot Bay (and on a clear day -- more likely in the fall -- of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia NP). There is an auto road to the top of Mount Battie, and a foot trail to the summit of Mount Megunticook.

If it hasn't closed for the season, Red's Eats in Wiscasset offers perhaps the most famous lobster roll in Maine.

Enjoy your visit, as far as I'm concerned fall is the best season in Maine weather wise and crowd wise.

Maine is very special and be sure to get to Camden. Beautiful little seaport. Very picturesque. As has been said, the lobster roll is wonderful. ( I think I ate it everyday at lunch for a week )

Get a brochure from Rockport, Chamber of Commerce. Also use Goggle and AAA.

Lots of evergreens in Maine so I’m not sure what foliage you will find (we are in Rockport at the moment). If you like lighthouses, just locate on a Maine map - no private property issues. I recommend a short drive down to Penobscot to get a shot of that lighthouse from down on the waterfront. As mentioned, Camden has everything for a photographer - great street shots, wonderful harbor. In re lobster rolls, you can explore the difference between Maine style and Connecticut style.
