The only pics of Pelicans, I've seen - are - where they're on the ground, with their beaks, drooping.

You're in Florida, I see … where, I gather - they're pretty prevalent …

Here you go.

Great shot on the canyon as I have been there and loved everything but the mass of people. It seems like bus load after bus load kept coming so I found it difficult getting a good shot. The guide kept rushing everyone so that he could go and get another tour. It's nice to see that someone actually found the shot without anyone in it. Thanks for sharing your lovely photograph.

Oh, thank-you, Blurry … a BROWN Pelican …

I don't see many of those around these parts …

Thank you, Blurry …

Connecticut has two native species of white and brown pelicans. White ones are considerably rarer. You don't see them because you aren't a bird photographer and I suspect you limit your distance in traveling. That's been evident in your previous posts when I mentioned areas worthy of traveling to and your response was essentially "too far". That's not criticism more as an observation.

That's right, Haydon … I'm not a Bird Photographer. I don't have the right hardware to shoot birds.
Nor, do I have much inclination, in that direction. I am, though, somewhat of an ornithologist. Go Figure!

For seven years we lived along the Connecticut River in Massachusetts, but we never thought of driving down to the Connecticut shore to see pelicans. We did see brown pelicans down in Florida once, though.

When I lived in Newtown, RE (c. 1958-1964) - we quite often drove to Seaside Park, in Bridgeport. It was about a half-hour, to 45 minutes, from Newtown. We just went there to swim. Can't even remember if I was into birds, back, then. Now, I live here - in New Fairfield (near Brewster, NY) - it's a good hour or more to get there - depending on traffic. Now, I'm older, I try to keep my driving down to the bare minimum - between the shakes, and a lame right foot - I do only necessary driving to get to Medical appointments, and do my Grocery Shopping. I suppose - the nearest part of the Long Island Sound, to me, now - is the stretch between Westport and Stamford - perhaps - Norwalk - but, I very seldom go there. There's so very much to photograph - much closer to home. And, the land around here - has lakes, galore, too …

Richard - instead of sending me to a link - why don't you tell me what your beef is?

Not too long ago Chris said it wasn't 45 minutes to Milford Photo from his place because he didn't live in Danbury. What he failed to mention is that New Fairfield is just 6 miles from Danbury which he openly admitted in this thread. I'm use to seeing inconsistencies Richard.

I think Richard's referring to your posting in that thread saying this Chris.

Actually, Richard - I've already done quite a bit of bird photography. My best stuff, though, is mostly - ducks, swans and Canadian Geese - the ones who stay close to the ground and don't fly much. I also have a whole bunch, taken of flying birds - but, most of them take off when I get too close. For a while, I'd been thinking of putting a group of them, together … and calling them - "The Ones Who Got Away" …

You do have the equpment if you have a lens that goes out to 300mm (Sigma 70-300 APO Macro?) especially as you are using crop bodies.

Here are 2 examples shot at the local duckpond, a 5 minute walk from home, with a Canon 1.6 crop body and a 70-300 lens.
