It was a good choice to go for softness over out-and-out vividness. Soft light has its virtues that would have been lost if colour and contrast had been ramped up too much.
And it was a good choice to include the foreground interest that you did. We had quite an extensive thread on sunrises/sunsets a while back and one of the main conclusions is that on their own they are weak when compared to shots that have extra interest from the environment in the form of foreground or background interest, and that's true regardless of how vivid they are.
Nice shot. Although the sunset is obviously (and well done) subject, For my taste, there is too much of the irrelevant foreground and cr vegetation (which has zero interest). I'd crop bottom and right, and maybe even lighten up the ruins a tiny bit, and add some saturation to the sky via a separate layer mask.
Interesting shot. The majestic beauty of a sunset partially blocked by a falling down shack. Was it possible to get higher, like stand on your car to increase the amount of sky in the shot while decreasing the foreground and the height of the shack?

Thanks for the input. The shack was the intended subject and the foreground was intentional.
