McKee Gardens located in Vero Beach, FL, one of the original tourist attractions in Florida in the 1940's, has the world's largest, single piece mahogany table at 38' long. The table is the center piece in the Garden's Hall of Giants and it was first exhibited at the St Louis LA Purchase Exposition in 1903. It could seat 100 people at a time while 100 steaks could be cooked and served from the adjacent Spanish Kitchen. The Developer, Waldo Sexton, promotion of the table stated "it could sit 10 mounted horseman side by side along with two small boys, three kittens and a sting of catfish." Restoration of the Hall of Giants is an interesting story in itself.

The Hall of Giants was used for local HS banquets & parties, corporate meetings, LA Dodgers parties, Chamber of Commerce meetings and other local events. Also included are a couple of photos of the gardens other landmarks, the stone bridge and Lotus blossoms.

Being a member of the American Horticultural Society, I visit it often and membership also allows reciprocals at hundreds of other gardens throughout the state and America.

Thank you...After the exposition, it impressed Mr. Sexton so much that he tracked it down in a NYC basement and brought to McKee Gardens.

The story gets better & better ... thanks for sharing that. I wish Mr. Sexton a lot of luck with his venture ... & I hope he continues to care for & protect that table. It's an amazing work.

It was founded in 1929 as McKee Jungle Gardens, when Waldo Sexton and Arthur G. McKee purchased an 80-acre tropical hammock along the Indian River. Tropical landscape architect William Lyman Phillips was hired to design its streams, ponds, and trails and opened in 1932. Quite a bit smaller than when it was built but still a nice garden with pristine trails...Cheers

Beautiful piece of wood that happens to be a table.
But, 100 people?!?!?!?!? 38x2sides = 76 feet so if you could fit one person per foot it would have to seat 7 at each end to make 100.
I googled it, it is 35' 10".

Your pictures are very nice, but your stats are off. It is Philippine wood.
