It's a known tactic in market separation from Canon. Some people call it crippling. More to point as mentioned, removing features that were once present isn't in the best interest of its customers. Some may not need a feature while others require them. Sadly as mentioned it requires some digging to know what to buy and what not to buy. I've owned the SX 50/60 and sold the 60 because of IQ lacking. Still own the 50. Full circle maybe but it comes at a price to the consumer.

I just don't like the tactics to save money and to make it difficult for the customer to buy reasonably priced accessories. It's almost like buying a car one year and finding out the fourth rim the following year is an option.

Haydon - the Rebel T3 I have, has the Auto Depth feature. I was so disappointed when I got my Rebel T4i - to find that highly desirable feature - no longer present. It turns out it was included in many of the bodies produced before the T3, but the T3 was the last one to have it. So, I know well, how it goes. Read a lot of reviews of both the SX-60, and SX-70, and it turns out neither of 'em is as good as what I have.

But so many are hot on mirrorless and all the lenses will work with the adapter. I believe the adapter is included in some offers... Just surprised me no one brought it up.

Possibly because most of the responders figure the OP is on a strict or limited budget because all the lenses are used flea market finds and the OP may want to keep the cost down as low as possible. Most people are suggesting bodies that cost well under that of an EOS R or RP. Or, maybe the bulk of the responders are anti-milc.

I will be interested in Canon's second round. The lack of IBIS, a second card slot and reliable Eye AF found on the Sony's makes it a non starter (for myself). In some ways (not all) Canon's first round at best is a lateral move to their comparable DLSR line.

None of the OP'S lenses will mount natively to a Sony body. This conversation is not about the good vs bad points of MILC vs DSLR. It doesn't matter that the EOS R series cameras don't have IBIS or two card slots or eye AF. Neither does my EOS 80D and I've take some really nice photos with that camera.

Any "S" lens will not work on a full frame camera

Snappy - the 7D is a Crop Sensor Camera, so - the EF 80mm f1.8 - will NOT work on it …

This is true because to the best of my knowledge, the EF 80 f/1.8 or any other EF 80 prime does not exist.

True, but the 5D3 and 5D4 were mentioned several times I believe...

Just goes to show that not everyone is paying attention.

Oh, I see, Paul - so, now - you can only use Canon Speedlites … big deal!!!!

I find restricting flash models to Canon very restrictive and a nasty move by Canon.

My vote would be for the Canon 80D. All the lenses you bought will fit and work, and the 80D can be had used or new for great prices.

I didn't say whether or not it was a big deal, I answered your question as to what was deleted. That is 1 item.

ALL these advantages of the earlier SL2 OVER the newer SL3 - eh, DW?

Hey - thanks for pointing this out … looks like I'll have to scratch plans for adding an SL3, then ...
