Trying my hand at photo stacking. Why you ask? One competed image can take over 4 hours!
I luv my flower images to be In Focus, so photo stacking it is.

D500, Micro Nikkor 85mm f3.5, tripod. Natural, evening light.
I use the touch screen on my D500-makes keeping track of the exposures simple. I use a clock-wise pattern, starting with the outside petals then working in. The two photos attached needed 34 images each. I have an old 2013 21.5 iMac. 8gb RAM, 1gb video card. SLOW! After making the necessary adjustments in LR I expert to PS as jpegs-otherwise file size is gi-normous! The Day Lily image was 2.72gb before being reduced to 5.11 MB as a jpeg for export.

For the Day Lily I set my D500 shutter to 1/100, f7.1, ISO 320. After 6 PM for that wonderful eveninglight.

For the Balloon Flower Revisited the shutter was set to 1/60, f5.6, ISO 720. After 8PM light beginning to fade.

How do you like them?

Thanx for viewing. It is a bunch of work but the results are worth it. Now if the minister of finance approves I will get a new computer.

Those are 2 beautiful pictures. #2 has an almost surrealistic appearance. You have motivated me to give this a try.

Really eye-popping images and welcome to the addictive world of focus stacking!

I try to do a focus stacking session every day and you are right in saying that it takes four or more hours at times to process a stack of images. I shoot micro (up to 10X and more) and most of my sessions are in the 600 plus image range.

Wow! The weather has been crazy here in the Pacific Northwest. The plants and animals ( and me) are all messed up. I enjoy photographing bugs but none are to be found. We have a few bumblebees but no honey bees.
I do not know about 600 images but I will take as many as the project calls for.

Thanx for viewing.
