Does anyone have experience with both KEH and MPB? I am wondering which company has the more honest grading on their used equipment. I am looking to buy a lens and one company's Ex+ is more than the other's LN.

KEH. Got a great 5D mark II. Very happy.

MPB is a well known UK firm, and has an excellent reputation.

I have used KEH for years and have found their rating system to be accurate or erring on the better side (i.e., what they ship seems to be a bit better than what they advertise)

I only have experience with KEH in buying or selling used gear. I have purchased two camera bodies and four lenses from them over the years. I usually get the EX or EX+ grade. I have found the equipment I got from them to look just about new with no or little marks. One lens I got from them stopped focussing after about a month. Contacted KEH and the replacement was on my way before they got the one from me.

I've found both KEH and Roberts Photo's Used Photo Pro both to be reputable and honest sellers of used cameras and lenses.

S--t happens sometimes. The question is, did they make good on it? That would be my concerns because I have always had no problems with them. Including returns.

Not really. After installing and disassembling the first PC, re-installing the second PC only to have more problems, disassembling, and finally reinstalling a third PC they insulted me by offering a $20 concession on a $1250 unit that cost me a lot of hours and backbreaking work to get right (think desktop PC installed in a desk/hutch combo that can't be easily moved from the wall). The biggest problem I had with the whole mess was that a beat-up box with parts robbed from it was sent to me as a new purchase in the first place. I have managed a retail store myself and would never have allowed a client to get the brush off like that if a problem had occurred. I later learned that they had some personnel issues going on, but the damage was done and I haven't dealt with them since. Hopefully, they have turned their customer service around. More importantly, I hope they have turned their warehouse around. Being able to return something isn't always the end-all of great service.

I disagree. I’ve bought and sold a few items via the UHH classified ads. Those that are priced too high simply languish and don’t sell. Most items are priced competitively and if a potential buyer doesn’t agree, she/he can always make a counter offer.

I have purchase used gear from KEH and sold gear to KEH. All my experiences have been event free and without any drama. I sold some gear when someone from the company came during a road trip, and set up in a local hotel. I came in and waited a few minutes as others were finalizing their transactions. My time came up and the KEH representative was professional and courteous. He gave me a quotation and I accepted, he wrote me a check on the spot, and I was pleased with the amount and the transaction, as was everyone else who came before me.

I've had recent excellent experience with both mpb and KEH. Just bought a Fujinon XF 35mm f2 lens from KEH which they rated "Excellent+" when it looks absolutely brand new. A few months ago, I traded a Fuji X-T1 for a Fuji X-T2 with mpb and, again, the X-T2 was rated "LN" and it indeed looks (and behaves) brand new. In my humble estimation both companies are conservative in their ratings. Also, you have a grace period during which you can test the equipment and return it if you think it was improperly rated. I believe both companies are generally considered conservative in their ratings. If either company has what you want at what you are willing to pay, I'd say "go for it."

Thanks, donphotog, for the helpful feedback. I can confirm your sentiment on KEH, but am not familiar with MPB.
